-'[...] James told me there's an old saying here on Earth : 'May you be in heaven half an hour, before the devil knows you're dead.' Not sure if Turian heaven is the same as yours, but if this thing goes sideways and we both end up there... meet me at the bar. I'm buying.
- We're a team Garrus. There's no Shepard without Vakarian, so you remember to duck.
- Sorry, Turians don't know how. But I'll improvise. And Shepard... Forgive the insubordination, but this old friend has an order for you... Go out there and give them hell. You were born to do this.
- Goodbye, Garrus. And if I'm up there in that bar, and you're not, I'll be looking down. I'll always have your back.. '~ Garrus, last words.

The ghosts of the past meet again

Where do I even start ?

I absolutely love the game and preordered it a long time ago, as I did with every season of The Walking Dead since I discovered what a beautiful masterpiece the first part was.
The story is as gripping and thrilling as ever - the characters are believeable and alive, you genuinly attach to them and feel towards them ; whether it's love, sympathy, pity or hate. The choices are moving and unbelievably important irrelevant. The music is top notch, the world, the ever present feeling is danger, the constant threat and worrying about psychological state, food, ammo, dangers both from the outisde and from the inside. All those things make you contemplate on the whole point of living in a world like this, and answer one, crucial question ;

What path will you follow to survive ? Who will you become ? Who will you look up to ?

Telltale's 'The New Frontier' is far from being perfect, however. What I wrote at the beginning is the most I can say about it. To anyone reading this review ; keep in mind, I am a MASSIVE 'The Walking Dead' fan, and an even bigger Telltale's TWD and Clementine worshipper. I played the game since the Season One and none of you has any idea what kind of impact that 'game' have had on me ; what it taught me. Each and every episode is almost a religious experience, and the whole game is a proof that video games really are pieces of art, and 'The Walking Dead' rose way beyond a mere title of a 'video game', straight to the position of a masterpiece.

Because of that, now I'm going to give it some tough love. It is only my high hope that Telltale will finally find wisdom to make our beloved series great again. To drop their tricks and get rid of the gimmicks. To improve and learn from their mistakes. I really, really want to believe that, and for the sake of us all, want it to happen to the series. I want it to be better than anything else, to have an impact on you like no game or movie ever did.

And because of that, I shall say what needs to be said.

Let me start with pointing out the incredibly gigantic disappointment after the Season's Two ending. I get it, we all knew it was comming - the fake cape under which Telltale's 'key decisions' were hiding was discovered a long time ago. When we were presented a 5 different finales for Season Two, each of the resulting with numerous types of Clementine's personality, all shaped by every decision of yours in Season One and Season Two, we had to accept the universal 'bond' Telltale would tie them all up with. We saw Jane's and Kenny's deaths from afar.

But for gods sake, making Clementine one of the best video game characters in the history, making us live this incredibly touching and heart-breaking story for whole two seasons only to change the main protagonist and give us one 1-minute flashback of her past ? Are you even... Telltale ? Are you... ? As much as I loved Jane's path and its result - it was my main choice, and hands down hardest I ever made in a game - Kenny's one (which I tried on my alternative playthrough) was simply... empty :

Arguably the most important character in the whole series aside form the Clementine herself, after witnessing his friends leave him, sacrificing himself for Lee, watching his son and wife die, his other woman die horribly, being beaten almost to death, surviving violent Russian gang and uncountable ammounts of walkers, leading Rebecca's birth of AJ and, most important of all, raising Clem dies in a 45-second flashback scene in... a car crash ? Flying through the windshield becasue his belt was unbuckled ?

I won't even say anything more. I'll just leave each of you alone to think about it on your own account.

The biggest cancer of this game is the lack of decision's weight. Telltale forgot the whole point of their games. They make fast food now. A few cliche heart-gripping momments backed up with melancholic tune and the sweet illusion that 'your decisions matter, really !' only to find out that the outcome is very often the dead same no matter what you choose is all it takes to get fans buying their games. It certainly was all it took to hook me up. Only that true fans will always notice it, and just like me, as much as they love the game and enjoy it, they cannot close their eyes on the balsphemy Telltale is doing to their prime - and our favourite - series.

Some char's seem simply badly and hastly written, just like the rest of the episodes. I won't even complain about the ridiculously short lenght (1 hr/each Ep) but - one of many examples - Javi leading the group all of sudden with everyone listening to him ? With alphas like Tripp ? It really doesn't look believable.

I realize the point of having him as a main character - it was for us to see how Clementine has changed and observe her behaviour while still making crucial decisions regarding her persona. Hopefully at least, cause none of the first two epsidoes contained any thus far.
As likeable as Javi is - and he really is, but nothing out of the scheme, if you ask me : a simple guy trying to take care of his family while still being young and unsure himself - he IS NOT a Clementine we've all been asking and waiting for. I really don't see a point of this - making us play a totally different man after bonding with Clementine for the whole time. If the game was only like TFtB, where we can read about objects and people, and play each episode from the perspective of both characters. Instead, they give us someone we don't know and we really really - as likeable as he is, once again - care about. We wanted Clem, and giving us a huge slap to the face in the form of a completely different protagonist and making her story only present in disgustingly short feature at the end of the first (and only the first !) episode is something that won't go.

The music is definitely worse then it was in Season One or - especially - Two. Remember Anadel or Devics crushingly sad beats at the end of each episode, where every one was different and fit its episode mood perfectly ? You won't find it here.

Not to even mention that the game really does feel (aside from the short prologue where we witness Javi's family tragedy) rushed and buggy. Remember when Clem left in Ep 2 right when they got out of the tunnel ? She was visible looking thorugh the car window 5 seconds later when we take care of Kate ! Was that intentional or not, I don't know, but it surely broke the moment and the weight of whole two episodes a bit, where everything was building up to her leaving Javier. And how did she even got out of there in a first place, without being noticed by anyone ? Tripp seems honestly crushed by her disappearance, and I could almost feel for him. If I only didn't ask myself one important question : how the hell did she managed to leave the tunnel they all went through without being noticed, when said tunnel only had one exit ? The other bugs are more minor ; badly placed captions or something of that sort. On the other hand, it is clearly visible, especially if you play the second time, how bad some of the animations look and it would really benefit the game if Telltale spent more time perfecting it, so we didn't have to see robots anymore. Especially now that the new graphics are really nice and very realistic, along with the great facial expressions.

People always remember, and believe me or not, the time will come when Telltale will regret showing its fanbase a middle finger the entire time. That being said, I enjoyed the Season Three so far, and I await the next episodes with great impatience. I am only sad at how this beatiful series is getting noticeably worse and worse with each season.

The best review of walking dead the new frontier, season 3 is poor agaimts season 1,2 (for me) at least in season 1 you searching for new people , places, towns better choices , make reliationship with characters ... And season 3 ? Its just javier and clem places: junkyard and frontier camp .. Its pretty poor and there iss nothing "magically" like in S1,2 ...
