The campaign is the best shooter experience I have had since the days of Marathon/Durandal/Infinity in the 90s (the OTHER granddaddy of shooters, the first to implement free-look and dual-wielding etc). It's also the first I have ever played that actually emphasises replayability - miss some secrets the first time, go back and try to find them on the next playthrough. Tweak your weapons and armor differently to fit a different playstyle on the next playthrough.

Was I blown away by the multiplayer during the beta? No, but I enjoyed it enough to even keep me from diving into the Overwatch beta running at the same time. Now that it has been fully realised, and I've experienced a number of different maps, game modes and demons, I can safely say that it's "pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good". I played a lot of multiplayer from Doom, Quake/Q3 and Marathon, back in the day, but since then I've also played a lot of the modern, military shooters, and of course, Halo.

It borrows elements from both ends of the shooter spectrum. I for one do NOT have a problem with that. I do not understand why people think challenges and unlocks are a deal breaker (since you are very quick to unlock new weapons, anyway).

The only things that bother me are the lack of weapon pickups (save for power weapons), which were even present in Halo, and how some of the weapons felt underpowered (the heavy assault rifle, rocket launcher).

TL;DR

Buy it, and stop acting like change is the be-all-and-end-all.
