Early Access Review
So far, amazing game! It's basically Bloodborne/Souls Series + Binding of Isaac + Risk of Rain.

Death is the main currency of the game. Throughout a level, you'll find blueprints for new items to unlock, which will show up on subsequent playthroughs, much like BoI (and I'm sure many other rogue-lites). The catch here, is that you have to make it through the level to keep the blueprints. If you die, you loose the blueprint until you find it again on a new run. After each level, there's a small area with an npc who'll take the blueprints, and will let u upgrade unlocked items.

The combat is similar to that of Souls series or a fighting game. You need to be able to read & predict the enemies at a glance and react accordingly. Unlike the souls series however, there's only one attack button per weapon (can carry 2 weapons at a time) and there's no stamina bar, making it a bit more hack 'n slashy than the souls series. It certainly doesn't make the game a whole lot easier though. The rally/health regain system was lifted from bloodborne too, and I'm very happy to see it here.

I usually really don't like game with this art style, the art style being pixelated and and without hard outlines around characters & enemies. This is one of my biggest problems with Crawl, as, in the heat of the moment, it can be easy to lose track of where u are cuz your skin color is the same as the background color, making it very hard to distinguish objects. All the enemies in this are nicely color coded and easy ro recognize even without outlines. On top of that, there's some gorgeous views ahead.

So far, I've only encountered one noticeable bug, where I kinda started floating in the air after climbing something. Should've recorded that to help out :/

Dear Toby Fox,

You owe me a new wall. Not the first three though, but all the ones after that.

Seriously though, great game. If you like Earthbound, I'm sure this'll be well worth your money.
Just don't go into this game thinking it'll be some "experience of a lifetime" or some magical ♥♥♥♥. That'll only put unrealistic standards on it. Actually, probably best to not do that for any game. Ignore the hype, and try to enjoy it for what it is. If you pay attention to what it does right, you're sure to have a great time :)

A very good game overall, and probably the best sequel I've played. What I mean by that is it takes the original's mechanics and thoroughly expands on them, while still keeping the "core" game. It doesn't require you to have played the original either, this one is probbly a better starting point into the series; it adds in a checkpoint system, which makes it easier on the newbies, but the crazy hardcore can still skip (for bonus points too). In addition, it eases you into the mechanics quite well and adds more throughout the entire game. One this to note though is if it doesn't immediately appeal to you, just skip it. It doesn't dramatically alter, which I find to be a great thing; just don't bother if you don't like it right off the bat.

Very good remake overall. 60 FPS is truly glorious. Not sure how I feel about the more serious tone though and new soundtrack, but overall it's very good.

I jumped aboard this for 14 cents, and did not think I would be sucked into it's pull so quickly, rather than it being a real downer.

In all seriousness though, it's not too bad. It's got a few solid mechanics that are fairly fun to work with.

Do you like Super Hexagon or Bit.Trip? If so, you'll probably like this. If not, stay far away from it.

Probably my favorite game of all time now. Got far over 60 in on my first run, and I'm still finding new things out about it.
