I have played civ 5 on and off for the last 9 years, mostly hot seat multiplayer with my wife. It is a fantastic game - for me a perfect mix between Heroes of Might and Magic and Sim City.

Obviously lots of knowledge required to play well but I dont think the first step is too hard to take either. You can have a fun game knowing close to nothing and you can discover more effective ways to build your empire 10 years into it.

I play with the Lekmod which also is a great addition to the game.
