With the full title being Seven Days With You: the Most Precious Memory in Our Lives it was already hinted that Seven Days was going to be a quite emotional game. At first, I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect as there are seven girls in total the protagonist will spend time with, so I was just assuming that this visual novel might be a typical dating sim – well just with ghosts and obviously supernatural elements. However, after going through this game, I realized that Seven Days is a little bit different than dating sims and can hardly be called one although there is technically the option to romance the ghost girls, yet this visual novel doesn’t focus on its romance elements at all.

Seven Days opens with Shuuichi who obtained a so-called cursed Blu-ray from his friend. Despite his childhood friend, Murasaki, being able to see ghosts, he still decides to watch the Blu-ray regardless. Luckily, Murasaki comes to his rescue as he indeed gets hunted by a revengeful ghost lady. After purifying it, the body of the ghost surprisingly remains yet the evilness disappeared. Not being able to explain the phenomena, Shuuichi notices that she is no longer a possible danger anymore and it turns out there are seven ghosts inside her in total with Chiyako being the main owner. However, ghosts can only stay in this world for 49 days, so the ghosts decide to divine it equally so each girl can spend their seven days before they go to the other side. Shuuichi’s goal is to help them all to find happiness in the end so they can leave this world without any regrets.

First of all, the character development is outstanding here. While the player gets introduced to so many characters right in the prologue, it was quite hard for me to distinguish each person at first, however, as Shuuichi spends each week with a different girl I was able to get a better picture of them. Slowly, I got to know them better with each girl having their own story and I got more and more attached to them. Sadly, some character chapters fell a bit shorter, so I was quite sad that my journey with them was already over before I knew it. But that only proves how good the character development here actually is since although I could only spend very little time with them, I already had the feeling that I knew everything about them.

And this leads me to the next point, the parting of each ghost. With each week, my heart felt heavier and I didn’t want to let them go. Although their happiness should be the most important here, I had an incredibly hard time when my time with any girl was over and I had to mentally prepare myself because I knew the process would repeat itself. The sad thing here is that Shuuichi feels the exact same, but at the same time I cannot blame him because even I grew very attached to each ghost. Funnily enough, the prologue seemed more like Seven Days being a terrifying horror visual novel, yet it turned out completely different with spending your everyday life in harmony with seven different ghost girls whom you can’t help but fall for, and this isn’t even meant romantically.

Talking about romance, as aforementioned above, I wouldn’t call Seven Days a dating sim per se as you go through each chapter and it’s a story as a whole. While there are good ends for some chapters, the romance might be available but it’s very subtle so only the very end changes. I have to admit that I sometimes didn’t even find the good endings very fitting because first of all, Shuuichi only spends seven days with a ghost, then falls for her but when it’s the next one’s turn he falls for another girl right after that, within seven days. That being said, the subtle romance elements are easily ignorable here and definitely isn’t the main genre of this visual novel.

Of course, as you get to know each ghost better, the story of them will get revealed after a while. During the character chapters, the story gets build-up to prepare for the last chapter so the player has a clue what is happening. While most chapters only have the purpose of introducing a new ghost, I found exactly this part is incredibly important so you have a certain bond with them. This, however, meant at the same time that when you’re not really fond of a certain character you will be stuck with them for this chapter. The story might need a while to pick up, yet it’s totally worth it with the last arc being so emotional that it managed to make me tear up. On a side note, there will be an extra story getting released in the future to look forward to for those who are still seeking for more.

At first, I was quite confused about Seven Days. After completing a chapter, the game leads you back to the chapter selection so you can play the next one you unlocked. When you reach a good end, a heart will appear on the chapter selection menu. I wondered why this visual novel always brought the player back to the menu, but as soon as I completed it, it completely made sense as the player needs a certain combination of good and normal ends to unlock the last chapter. This way, you can always go back to a specific chapter and undo the good or normal end so the player isn’t forced to skip through the whole story again. The only thing I am missing here is a skip-to-the-next-choice button, yet an option for the opposite is available here – the rewind-to-the-last-choice button.

The artwork is gorgeous in Seven Days with multiple different expressions and poses. However, it doesn’t end here as the girls even have different hairstyles which change during the story as well. There is plenty of CGs available here in a lot of different variations as well such as expressions. I found despite each girl being in the same body, it’s clear that different personalities are residing in Chiyako here. Each poses even fit perfectly with the ghosts and I found they really match their individual personality as well. Additionally, high-quality voice acting is available here, and even so-called reaction choices where you have to act quickly by clicking on a certain icon that influences the outcome as well.

Seven Days turned out to be such a memorable game which I definitely won’t forget anytime soon. A visual novel rarely manages to tear me up and I absolutely loved the slow-building up it has to offer so the reader first gets attached to each ghost until they find out more about the story. While the game starts with light-hearted elements at first, mixed with a little bit of romance, the story gets serious and emotional soon enough. That being said, I really had a hard time letting each girl go as I got so attached to them, but at least they were able to get to know happiness and what it means to live before going on the other side and that’s the thing that mattered most. Overall, Seven Days will very likely appeal to anyone who enjoys a high-quality visual novel with decent character development and a touching story to top it off, as well as light-hearted scenes in between.

this god damn good game take so much of my tear. i ve never seen the game better than this though they make heartbreaking a lot when each of the girls disappealry in happy end. i love chiyako the most, she is the most poor, most suffering girl in this game, she is the one who most deserving best ending. i hope the new chiyako in furture last game will remember shuuichi again and they will be a happy couple.
