As the title already says it all, this version is an HD remake of the game Princess Maker ~Faery Tales Come True~, the third game of the Princess Maker series. I haven’t played the other version of this game yet, so I can’t really compare them with each other but can only write my experience with the HD remake. Despite knowing that this game is a little bit older, the series is just so popular that I couldn’t help but have to try it out as well. While it seems like a rather simple game at first glance, reaching the desired end turned out to be more tricky than I assumed at first. That being said, Princess Maker ~Faery Tales Come True~ is a quite challenging game but that only motivates the player to do their best to become a good father.

In Princess Maker ~Faery Tales Come True~ you’re pretty much raising a girl and make her dreams come true. Although it doesn’t work out every time, being a lovely father is all that counts. You see, the girl is a faery that got turned into a human girl by the Faery Queen. The dream of this faery is to become a princess, although this road might be a rather tricky one. Luckily, you’re spending eight years with her, so there is plenty of time to guide her in the right way. And who knows, maybe she won’t become a princess in the end after all.

You see, the story is rather simple in Princess Maker ~Faery Tales Come True~ and only serves the purpose of raising a daughter. Of course, as the player spends eight virtually years with her and sees her grow up, it’s already a satisfying feeling while you naturally grow attached to her in one or another way. There are small events spread through the playthrough and you can decide to attend special competitions. I noticed very soon that it’s not an easy task to win them, especially when playing a Princess Maker game for the very first time and a quite high number of stats is needed for it. However, overall I am convinced that it’s very hard to obtain every ending or scenario without the help of a guide.

Princess Maker ~Faery Tales Come True~ contains mostly stat raising with a lot of different stats you can improve or decrease. Eventually, the stats will determine the outcome of this game. I liked that a high number for certain stats wasn’t the best outcome but some were better kept as low as possible such as the typical stress one. When your girl gets too little rest, she will catch a cold which obviously isn’t an ideal scenario. During the game, you can plan her schedule, even for a long time of period although most activities or lessons do cost money. Luckily, your daughter can even do part-time jobs to earn a little bit of money so she can continue to attend her lessons. But we also have our supportive father who helps her out at times, right?

I’m not going to lie, Princess Maker ~Faery Tales Come True~ managed to make me feel quite frustrated because I didn’t get the outcome I wanted although sometimes unexpected events were quite entertaining as well and winning a competition feels satisfying after all. I found myself constantly trying to be the perfect father for my girl and to raise her the right way which turned out harder than you would assume at first. Being a parent is probably never easy, but I feel like, in the end, the whole effort is worth it when you can finally fulfill your daughter’s dream so you know you did a good job.

I feel the need for addressing the translation as well for this rare case because that’s something that many people complain about. While I found the wording rather simple and sometimes some sentences may seem a little bit off, it didn’t bother me a lot. I am, however, not really picky with translations either but I’ve been still able to enjoy Princess Maker ~Faery Tales Come True~. Since this game mixes visual novel elements with stat raising being the main aspect of it, I didn’t notice most small issues, although it’s definitely due to the story not being written as if it’s the main part of this game.

Graphic-wise, Princess Maker ~Faery Tales Come True~ is truly beautiful for being such an old game. It looks even pretty in fullscreen with only the downside of the ratio being 4:3 although I have to admit that I really like that the borders do have a pretty design as well instead of just being plain black. Outside of the sprites and CGs, the game works with pixel style graphics, which I found adorable and even nostalgic. Of course, I didn’t expect the newest graphics, yet I am always surprised how lovely old designs can be and I don’t have a problem at all with it, but in fact, I found it even quite fitting to the Princess Maker’s theme. In addition to that, this game is even animated so you can admire your adorable daughter in pixel graphics during her schedule.

Princess Maker ~Faery Tales Come True~ is a stat raising game that offers a lot of different challenges your faery daughter and you, as her father have to overcome together. It’s not easy to get your desired ending most of the time because this game has a lot of different stats which are needed for a certain outcome, however, this only makes the player want to go through it once again to find out what they could do differently so their daughter will grow up with an alternative future. That being said, Princess Maker ~Faery Tales Come True~ is probably a game that is enjoyable for those who enjoy stat raising games although it, however, might become a bit frustrating in case you’re not really a fan of it.
