I have a lot to say about this game, so I'll give you both a short version and a long version:
Short version
Hundred Line is an incredible groundbreaking game that is certainly worth playing if you don’t mind games that require a lot of reading.

The main draw here is certainly the story with all its branching paths and endings, but the gameplay isn’t bad either. It has a simple but interesting take on the strategy RPG gameplay that has quite some depth to it.

Suffice to say, if you are a fan of Kodaka’s other games like the Danganronpa series and Rain Code, I am sure you will enjoy this one!

Long version
Hundred Line starts as an enjoyable linear experience as you are introduced to the cast and learn the battle system and the various game mechanics. It really comes into its own after the first 30 or so hours when the story reaches its first climax and the game starts asking you to make choices that lead the story down branching paths.

Most of the branching storylines are surprisingly packed with content and are noticeably distinct from each other, with a wide range of writing genres and styles on display. Ranging from goofy comedic routes where the most hilarious and outlandish antics ensue to dramatic routes full of tragedy and, of course, despair.

Even though the game does provide 22 unique storylines, the line had to be drawn somewhere. As such, the gameplay of each storyline tends to be structured in a similar way with battles and enemies being reused often.

However, the game does recognize that fighting the same battles over and over would be repetitive and so it allows you to skip any battle that you have completed before. It also cleverly gives you complete freedom to jump between routes at any time, allowing you to immediately go back on a choice that doesn’t play out how you wanted, or to simply move on to another route if the one you are on isn’t your cup of tea.

Hundred Line is packed with so much content that it is honestly overwhelming. At the time of writing I have over 120 hours and am satisfied with the game at 41/100 endings. I could imagine getting close to 200 hours or so before running out of content.

Without getting too close to spoiler territory, I recommend playing through at least endings #1 and #55. Look up a guide on which choices get you to these endings, unless you want to find them through trial and error (which can be fun in its own right).

I could go on and on about this game, but I’ll just add that if you are even vaguely interested in the premise of Hundred Line, you won’t regret giving it a chance!

Fun game to play with friends! The gameplay is pretty simple, it's just hunting for clues with various gadgets while being hunted by the ghost, in hopes of identifying the ghost before it catches you.

Aside from the gadget clues, the game also provides some info on the behaviour of each ghost, though it is rather unreliable (the wiki is your friend). Either way, with time, you start recognizing certain characteristics about each ghost which is rather cool.

The game has its issues, sure, the voice recognition is very hit or miss, the menus are somewhat overcomplicated, VR integration leaves a lot to be desired, and the game can be a bit of a grind. However, these do not get in the way of the fun.

If you are looking for that next game to play late at night with your friends, give this one a chance!
