I’m… torn on this one. I do whish there was a maybe button. It’s a fun game, but I think there’s ultimately not enough content in the base game to justify the pricepoint. The endgame is also VERY grindy. This wouldn’t be as much of an issue, if things didn’t get so convoluted. Of course I understand that the game is trying to be a bit overwhelming on purpose. It’s supposed to simulate managing a cult, of course it should feel chaotic and convoluted, and that you’re always struggling with something, be it the police, your sanity, resources or sickness, but once you have figured out how to manage everything, things just drag out a bit too much. The game overstays it’s welcome in the end. I probably spent about 6 hours in the endgame doing the same expedition over and over to get enough stuff for the final ritual, which was honestly just dreadful.

I wouldn’t say the game is as bad as something like graveyard keeper, where the unbearable grind starts early on, and the story is boring and uninspired. Cultist simulator has a great early game and a fantastic mid game. The story isn’t phenomenal, but quite creative and it definitely keeps you wanting to find out more.

The game’s strongest suit is probably the overall vibe. The art, music and sound effects create an immaculate atmosphere of everything being just stressing and overwhelming. In the beginning you know absolutely nothing, and there is basically no tutorial. A large part about the game is figuring out mechanics, and this is the best and most fun part of the game, especially with the vibe the game has going. The pause button is a godsend and you should use it.

Now let’s talk DLCs. The base game gives you 3 paths that you can pursue, and the rest is locked behind DLCs. I wouldn’t have an issue with that, if the base game was 10-15€ instead of 20€. I’m sorry, but I think it’s a bit scummy. At least give the player 5 paths to start off with if you wanna charge that amount for the base game, it would at least make the player feel a bit less limited.

In the end I do like the game, but I wouldn’t recommend to get it outside of a sale.

The game has so much potential and has one of the most memorable and fun starts I've had in gaming, yet it still manages to be a very shallow experience in the end.

The ideas behind all of the concepts are great on paper. A more cynical Stardew Valley like pixel RPG is a great premise, yet the game fails to deliver on any of it's promises. The grinding becomes unbearable and straight up annoying very quickly, none of the characters are fleshed out or nuanced and the game is virtually unplayable without the fanwiki.

Now, let me actually get into some depth about the story/art. All of the NPCs stories end with them reuniting with their families. Sure, it's cute, but ultimately feels kind of uncreative. I don't like the fact that everyone is presented as morally grey, yet everyone gets a cute little happy ending with ultimately no questions about morality asked. The darker tones are interesting at first, but are ultimately just a gimmick. Everything is very much to be taken at face value, and there is essentially no depth at all. The art is mostly very pretty and I'm a fan of it. I am however, disappointed especially by the dungeon. After Snake described it as super mysterious, and told the MC that only the first levels were explored I was very excited to get deeper into the dungeon, and hoped to see the environment become more ancient and lovecraftian the lower the levels got. Surprise, all of the dungeon looks the same, and there isn't even a boss at the end, only a quest item you could also have purchased. I think this specific instance is actually representative for the general experience of playing the game. The setup gets you all excited, yet the delivery ends up being disappointing and boring.

It is also unbelievable, that the game is pretty much unfinished without the DLCs. They should be ADDITIONAL content, not NECESSARY to make the game more enjoyable. The fact that so much gameplay that feels like it should be essential for the core experience is locked behind a paywall feels like a scam.

Graveyard Keeper does not respect the players time or money. I had fun for the first maybe 20 hours, and then it felt like a chore to play to experience the ending. If you want to have an actually enjoyable and short experience just watch the "I played 100 days of graveyard keeper" let's play instead of actually playing it yourself.

Starts off a bit frustrating if you’re a bit slow of unexperienced with shooters, but once you understand the mechanics it gets very, very fun. The classes are all very different and actually require proper tactics to get anywhere. Once you get to that point the only frustrating thing is RNG screwing you over. I there a reason to have burst sniper rifles? No. Did I do a little rage quit when I got one? Maybe.

Anyways, the game is just the whole package. Clean graphics, amazing music, and the gunplay feels great. I especially love the more realistic mechanics of ejecting and reloading, heat, ricocheting bullets and how your aim varies when walking. It feels very realistic and is quite punishing, but it’s also extremely rewarding once you get the hang of it. Probably the best roguelike shooter out there.

My only complaint is that coop can only played with two people. I want to share my suffering with more people. Yes I know there’s the second part that lets you play with 4 people, but I much prefer this game.

Very fun, but only when played with friends. Get some guys or gals together on a voice chat of your choice, and you're gonna have some great evenings.

This game is a bit like DnD for lazy people. Mechanics are great, but there's pretty much no story. This isn't a problem if you play it together with people, and arguably even an advantage. Why? Because you don't have to keep track of a lot of stuff when you're playing. No confusion about what's going on, just gameplay.

On the downside, this is definitely not a game you should play alone, because there's basically no story.

The game is... fun. I guess. My friends forced me to download it so that we could play in coop. Took us longer to get the game running than we actually played. Did I have fun though? Yes. The game is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard and scary, but pretty fun.
