Imagine everything that was great about SNES JRPG titles then remove everything that was horrible and you end up with CrossCode. I guess the best way to put it is that CrossCode takes lessons from games like Chrono Trigger and delivers an amazing story with the best aspects of the battle system from The Secret of Mana, without all the horrible aspects of that real time battle system.

The only thing that I'd strongly recommend is a controller. I haven't attempted to play without one but given the puzzles and other mechanics of the game, I can only imagine it would be nearly impossible to play without a controller. Not to say it is impossible, just that you'd have to be really into torturing yourself to play without one.

One more note I want to add for anyone running Linux in regards to controller support. Apparently there is an issue with key mappings but I've been able to successfully work around this using SC Controller. Just select the "XBox Controller" profile and make sure the controller is associated with the application before launching Steam. This will correct any and all input issues while playing on Linux.

The game feels more complete than the original including a much darker soundtrack that really captures the games darker side.
