Ladies & Gentleman, stalwart fans & newcomers rejoice as I present to you the cream of the crop & epitome of spectacular 3D arena fighters,
coated in with one of the most beloved & influential shōnen manga/anime of all time.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero (AKA Dragon Ball: Budokai Tenkaichi IV) is the long awaited sequel that took almost two decades to drop & is finally here in it's finest, purest & transected form.
Made by Spike Chunsoft who was also the sole developer of all the previous Budokai Tenkaichis, they delivered a product with passion, care & finesse, while respecting it's predecessors by keeping all the core features
in both gameplay & modes department, while enhancing 'em & adding little & big stuff! Let's break those down a bit:

First & foremost, the massive roster of 180 playable characters (and that just in base game!)
all with their unique moveset & signature moves while paying homage to the original show by having identical cutscenes & camera angles!
Be it a X20 Kamehame, Spirit Bomb & any other beam/ki blast super move, to Super Sayiajin Transformations, power up moves & character fusions, everything has its own goated cutscene which are at the very least eye pleasing. It even has stage specific cutscenes when unleashing ultimate attacks!
You can pick up to 5 characters for each battle and some have up to 4 transformations so the variety with each game can get crazy! (It does get crazy even without those but lets move on)
With this massive amount of characters it's only natural to see
entries from both the original TV show, spinoffs such as GT & a handful from the movies!
Snap-Happy!

Gameplay wise? Magawd you're in for a massive treat! Frantic & fast paced battles in high speeds, as it should be in DB, with tons of mechanics & techniques! Outstanding "Rock-paper-scissor" situations, power-ups, charge & rush attacks, clash battles, high evasive & perception counters are just a few! But fret not, since everything can be pulled really easily with 1 or 2 buttons, it all comes down to response times that it builds fast while delving & playing the game. There is almost an answer for every situation you're in as long as you have the resources & knowledge,
making it a superb fighter that can be enjoyed by both casuals & high-end competitive players!

Wanna talk modes? Other than the naturally expected online & offline Mode, you can participate in tournaments (again both online & offline) each with its own unique rule sets!
Be it you wanna compete in the acclaimed Budokai Tournament with stage ring outs, a variable Cell Games Arena
or Tournament Of Power, the game has you covered! But it doesn't stop there, that's merely just the beginning!
Online is smooth and with good connection on both sides, it feels almost like playing locally! 3D Arena fighters can't support rollback netcode (for now) but it really is as good as it gets!
Episodes mode is a soft recap of the story from the start of Dragon Ball Z to the end of DB super! Not only that but you can experience it from the perspective of
different fighters, such as Goku, Vegeta, Picollo, Gohan & even Goku Black! NOT ONLY THAT, but there are also What IF! scenarios, which shows you a different outcome from the Original story! An innovative take! I really appreciate the extra effort put here, of course it's not DB Kakarot (the game) level of story telling & cutscenes,
since Kakarot is a story driven RPG while Sparking! Zero is a PvP focused arena fighter. Worthy mention is that the dialogues are fully voiced over from the OG TV show VA's.
Other that those, there is a Gallery Mode with Theater for OST and Videos & an full character encyclopedia mode with extra commentary from Bulma, Chi Chi & Videl!
Those little extra attention to details, really blows the game of the roof for me! Add here the ability to gather dragon balls and summon Shenror & Porunga to grant you wishes, such as game currency, character exp etc.
And last but not least, the training & super training mode, with the latter being an exceptional well made tutorial that covers all the game mechanics, taught to Gohan(you) by non other than Piccolo sama!

Interested in playerbase numbers?? Sparking! Zero as of now, is the first arena fighter EVER that reached over 120k concurrent players and that on the days of it's initial release. Nothing ever has even come close to that,
even from big franchises that peaked a little under 15k. Numbers speak for themselves here and considering the fan base of dragon ball in similar games such as Xenoverse and Shinobi Strikers that are still active after many years,
this one will live and thrive!

Another beyond note worthy mention is the game currency & unlocks!
You can unlock costumes, characters, costumes & music by either unlocking some of those from Episode mode, or by spending Zenny which the game open handed gives you at every opportunity (from challenges to offline battles).
A nostalgic & kind gesture.

Downsides wise, cause nothing is perfect (except Cell), is some music packs ain't included in neither the Base game or even in Ultimate Edition.
MAKAFUSHIGI ADVENTURE! & Cha-la Head Cha-la are locked behind extra DLC. I believe they should be in the base game and have other secondary OST's there but you can't have everything.
I haven't encountered any bugs in my 16+ hours, I've read in the forums that some have their control schemes changed during online but I never got that.
Thankfully i found nothing to nitpick about except the OST part, which is no biggie compared to all the hype and nice time you get by experiencing this game in & out.

Bottom line is that Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is a phenomenal & wholesome game.
I might be biased cause of my love for DB, but it's truly a well delivered experience
that's the opposite of the majority of rushed & half-assed games that are getting released nowadays. There is sincere care & effort from Spikesoft that's shown from the moment you enter the game, being it the vivid & lively UI in mode select, crazy action gameplay & respecting the original show in every way possible!

I'm a 90's kid that grew up with Dragon Ball while idolizing Son Goku & his pure personality.
Firstly I'd like to thank the Goat Akira Toriyama, who's already missed, for sharing with the entire world his vision & then Bandai & Spike for delivering a high requested and anticipated sequel.

Surely, its over 9.000/10
