Updated Jun 4/25: The bugs are mostly fixed now. I definitely recommend this game now in its current state. It's such a blast and great fun! Put many hours into it. It's too bad we were mostly done playing by the time they finally patched the multiplayer.

Update Oct 14/24: STILL BROKEN, DO NOT BUY IF YOU'RE PLAYING MULTIPLAYER!

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNTIL IT'S PATCHED IF YOU PLAY MULTIPLAYER. There are major bugs and de-sync issues in multiplayer. You will endlessly team kill each other because the other players are not in the positions they're in, and they're not firing in the direction they should be. It's laughable that anyone would design a multiplayer game with a UDP protocol on player positions.

FIX THIS GAME!

I love this game! The music is magical, and it's easily the best aspect of this game.

That's not the beat-em-up gameplay is bad. It's fantastic, actually. They make the special moves easy enough to perform without issue, which makes you feel extremely powerful (you'll need it on the highest difficulty.) One complaint is there are no i-frames for certain animations, you're always vulnerable. Prepare to be juggled at times! Get good at countering or dodging.

Another complaint is that there is a bug with direct input where controllers for player one and two register as more than one gamepad. It's a shame that they never patched this out. I guess it didn't sell as well as they hoped.

Got it free on EPIC, but picked it up for steam for the Remote Play Together. Don't regret spending money on this. Just a great game you can play when you got four friends on a couch.

A decent game to play with a group of friends. Definitely worth a pick up when it's on sale.

A fun arcade shooter that keeps me coming back when I just want to shoot things and have a bit of fun. It allows for four-player co-op through the campaign, and they have recently added PvP and Zombie shooting. The AI isn't great, and the compensation to that is the sheer number that are thrown at you. You have to reload, but you have infinite clips.

Early Access Review
Update: Thumbs down now. Way down. I don't know what they did to the combat since I've played it in October 2023, but it feels like hot garbage now. It used to be fast and fun, now it feels clunky and burdensome, and this is with using fast weapons such as daggers and fists. The combat just feels... bad. It's awful.

This is a great game and definitely recommended. I'll compare it to Skyrim, since that's the obvious comparison.

Graphics are obviously better. The combat also feels much better than Skyrim (I'd hope so, since Skyrim is practically ancient at this point.) My only complaint is the map is a bit small, but there seems to be a decent amount to do in it at the moment. The voice acting is as good if not better than Skyrim as well.

I can't seem to find a shield, though. It's early access, so I wonder if they put them in yet.

Anyway, I grabbed it on sale for 20% off, but it's worth the full price of around $40 CAD.

Wow, yes, get this if you have VR! Such a great way to exercise, enjoy music, and have fun at the same time. Challenge yourself to higher difficulties even if you think you can't do them. You change the setting to allow you to keep laying a song even though you've failed. It'll help you improve, but also let you know how far you have yet to go still.

Early Access Review
Game in its current state is really fun, but you may run into some imbalanced situations due to the recent mutators that were added to the game. They have a roadmap, but always buy an early access game with an "as is" mindset, rather than a "future potential" mindset, because you never know when a project is just going to get dropped. That said, I am glad for the purchase of the game in the current state, and it has mostly been entertaining with only a handful of frustrating moments.

Early Access Review
Wow, yes, what a great early access title! This has a steep learning curve and I nearly played for two full evenings before solving a crime, but once you figure things out it's very addictive. 61 hours in and well worth the price of admission.

It's good to see that some irritating bugs have already been squished. Who knows where this game will go? Hopefully the developer keeps it up, but so far I've already got my money's worth. If you're on the fence about this, then come on down!

My only warning is that it's difficult for me to judge how well it runs as I have a pretty beefy system. I've heard others complain about performance issues. There is also a memory leak that will slowly reduce your frames. Nothing that a save and restart of the game won't fix, though.

I like this game and I like this series, but the epilogue at the end of this game is one of the most frustrating endings ever conceived. You get two choices at the end of the game, and regardless of which choice you make neither one tells you what actually happens as a result of your choice. You're left to assume that what was told to you is what will come to pass. There's never any indication that you made the right or wrong choice. Frustrating!

I'd love it if the creator would make more games, but it's been almost eight years now since this released and their website is devoid of any additional information. This is a sad note for a developer to go out on. I still recommend it because I really like the gameplay (lots of skills, grind is entertaining enough) but the story makes it feel like they got tired of making the series by this point and were just trying to get it over with by leaving you with just enough game to be called passable.

If you like to mess around with creative match-ups, then this can be pretty entertaining. Be warned, however, that there isn't really much of a game here. It primarily is a battle simulator that you run just so you can see some silly, entertaining stuff. You can't control units from up high (if you possess a unit you can get other units to follow you, but that's usually just a small amount of units.) One of the things I do like to do is see if I can make a team win a fight just by changing around the formations. You'll have to get creative to keep entertained with this.

I still recommend it because it's pretty neat to watch. I would caution to wait for UEBS 2 if you want RTS controls, though. Plus you can do millions of units instead of just tens of thousands.
