I only got this game because City Girl did the soundtrack for it. It's pretty cool, and certainly a new style of sound for her! The fact that the game is free makes it easier to try out, as well.

Do yourself a favour, and listen to the rest of City Girl's discography when you're done playing this game. You won't be disappointed.

There is nothing "Ultimate" about this "remaster".

To preface, Sonic Colors is one of those games where I played it once on the Wii, had an absolute blast, enjoyed it very much, then never felt like replaying it. It just felt like a chore. All I wanted to do was play as Super Sonic across like 6 stages total and nothing else.

The stages should have been longer, but were split into 6 acts. That's why there are so many boring, mindless 2D levels where you're just waiting for platforms to move, etc.

Another thing that irks me is the fact that to get an S rank, you need a high score, and the only way to get a high enough score in the majority of the levels is to activate a Wisp powerup and just WAIT. Wait until it runs out, then activate another, and repeat. You literally have to grab a drill, circle around till it runs out, then grab another and repeat if you want an S rank.

All that aside, though, this "remaster" is a disgrace and pretty much unplayable without mods and fixes. The Re:Rainbow mod is pretty much required among other things.

Without mods, this game is a mess. They couldn't even fix the audio issue where sound effects only play in one ear, so they made the entire game's audio mono in a later update. And the game doesn't let you adjust the volume of sound effects separately. They are tied to the music volume. Even with mods, many issues persist, such as falling platforms always slightly shaking when not stepped on, and not shaking more when actually stepped on, thus giving no indication that they will fall.

As well, this game has Denuvo.

Either get this on a steep discount, or just stick to the superior Wii version.

This DLC is literally 1 stage with 2 challenges, all of which are painfully easy to S-rank, thus offering no replay value. I S-ranked everything on my first try, and going through the stage slowly to pick up the cards I missed still resulted in an S rank.

Also, the Movie Shadow skin you use while playing the level cannot be equipped in any other level. His voice doesn't even sound good. For $8, this is a hard pass.

The skin is cool, but does not appear in cutscenes. It kind of looks like a smaller werehog. Is this dlc worth the upgrade price of $16? Absolutely not. But if you want the "complete" game, you'll want this dlc.

The Art Book and Mini Soundtrack are locked within the "game". You cannot export them as a PDF or FLAC files to consume normally. You have to launch them as though you're launching the game.

Day 1 DLC for an $80 game that already has a digital deluxe edition AND a pre-order bonus, not to mention multiple different physical collector's editions.

At least it isn't Super Sonic like what happened with Forces, but that just makes this even more weird considering it's not a character but just a pointless skin, only usable in Generations, a game whose original version has hundreds of better skin mods. This means this is less value for the same price that they initially tried to sell an entire new character for.

One small positive is it will still be available for purchase in the future. The Adventure pre-order bonus skin will become unobtainable once the game officially releases on Oct 25, 2024.

Though, this should have come in the base game as it would have made this one a free bonus, the Adventure Sonic a pre-order bonus, and Terios a digital deluxe bonus. At the very least this should have been included with the Deluxe edition and only be an optional purchase for those who only bought the base game.

Fun game tainted by a bunch of pointless changes to Generations' script that nobody asked for, Denuvo, a high price tag ($80 CAD? Really?), day 1 DLC despite its high price tag, and the fact that they delisted the original Sonic Generations before this game's launch, forcing you to have to buy an $80 bundle if you want it (which you do, since Generations literally has thousands of amazing mods that are absolutely must-plays if you like the base game, some being even better than the base game).

The Shadow levels are fun for now, but he is really slow, so replaying the levels won't be much fun. Generations didn't get any changes where it matters (ie. the graphics and gameplay) and instead got negative changes with the script and lore, removing defining character traits (Amy having a crush on Sonic) and humour (Amy no longer knocking Knuckles into a tree in the last cutscene of the game), etc.

Also, the soundtrack and artbook are in their own miniplayer that also use Denuvo. You cannot export them to FLAC files and a PDF.

EDIT 2024-10-27: The game crashes occasionally. It just instantly closes, no error window or freezing. Restarting the game greets me with the SEGA logo jumpscare which plays at 100% volume (I normally play at 18% since this game is so loud) with 0 warning, compounding on my frustration with having just crashed to getting jumpscared in the span of mere seconds.

This game was really, really fun back when I got it years ago. This was back when the only DLC it had was the OST. Now, it literally has $100 in DLC. Nobody plays this game anymore, so I can't imagine how one could justify paying for any of these DLCs. I hear that the DLC courses aren't even any good.

I get having to make money, but now that half the game is locked behind DLC which costs 6x more than base game, it makes it very unappealing for newcomers to buy this game, which is probably why the playerbase is dwindling.

In 2018, the Pink Mercy skin was gifted to me from a friend after they held a Widow headshot competition with our group of ~8 friends that I won (I have 30 minutes of Widow in my 1500+ hours of play time thanks to that). It has been my favourite Mercy skin ever since, and I was amused to learn my account's value was in the thousands largely thanks to that skin.

Since the Pink Mercy skin was announced to return, the matches I played had people trying to gaslight me because they thought I paid over a thousand bucks for my account, which I always laughed off because not only is this my one and only account, I didn't even buy the Pink Mercy skin in the first place; it was a gift/prize.

Anyway, I saw the Rose Gold Mercy skin and thought it didn't look as good as the old one, and was annoyed that they're doing the same garbage they do with their normal shop items where they bundle useless items you don't even want and don't have the choice to not get in order to charge you more, since obviously all you want is the skin. It costs about $7 more thanks to that, when all this skin is is a recolour in the first place.

Seriously, why didn't they simply make a new skin? I'm sick of all these reskins they're making and charging more than they used to cost in Overwatch 1.

However, this is the one time Blizzard will ever get a pass from people, and understandably so, since 100% of the profits (ie, after Steam gets their 30% cut and Blizzard gets whatever their platform fees would be) go towards the BCRF. And I thought about how I have every non-shop Mercy skin and that I would probably regret not having gotten the Rose Gold skin, considering the Pink one has been my main skin for the past 6 years.

So I thankfully was able to strike a deal with my friend in order for him to gift me the skin during the final hours that it was supposedly on sale (it seems to still be available as of July 9 at 1:56pm EST so I'm not sure what they meant with the July 8 deadline).

I don't know why so many people were having issues with the skin showing up in game, as I didn't even need to verify files for it to show up; I just launched the game after getting the DLC and it was there. Anyway, I haven't had the chance to actually use it yet (not that I would be able to even see it since this game's a first-person game lol), but I love that I can use the weapon (something I CAN see) on other skins, which will likely make me use my 2019 Atlantic skin more often.

One last thing: WHY IS THERE NO WEAPON CHARM????
