Distraint 2 is the sequel to the criminally underrated horror game Distraint (duh). To take a look at this game I will spoil the ending of the first game in the story section. I highly recommend playing the first game, cause it's quite the experience.

Story:

In Distraint 2 we yet again play as Price. The story picks up almost immediately after the events of the first game as Price is about to commit suicide, but in the sequel he is stopped by Reason. Reason tells him that he needs to conquer his inner demons, so he would reconsider his suicide.

The story in Distraint 2 is much more emotional than in the first game. There were some tear jerky moments in the first one, but in the second one trades the immense scares for an emotional story. In a way it's a good trade off, cause the writing is good and you actually care for Price and learning more about him is great and quite sad later on the road.

Graphics:

Just like the first game, Distraint 2 uses a pixely look, but it looks much better. In Distraint 2 you visit a lot more varied locations, that all look great. One of my favorites is the woods area where Prices home is located at the start of each chapter. The lighting and all of the details make it look absolutely stunning.

Of course you visit a lot of decrepit locations like in the first game, like abandoned hospitals and other locations I won't spoil, but even then the game looks absolutely stunning. Also I love all the creature and character designs, the monster designs especially. They're really simple, yet really effective.

Audio:

Distraint 2 soundtrack is great, but sadly it suffers from the same issues as the first game, where sadly sometimes the tracks don't fit the atmosphere and some times come off extremely cheesy. Other than that, the tracks are pretty good.

The sound effects are however really good and help build an amazing atmosphere, which will creep you out, relax you and or maybe make you cry.

Gameplay:

Distraint 2 is at most a puzzle game. You walk around the environment in each chapter looking for items and look for locations where you can use them. Sadly just like the first game, the puzzles are extremely easy, with only two of the top of my head that gave me trouble.

Also the game is not as horror-y as the first game, instead of focusing on a much deeper story. There are moments like the first game, where you encounter a monster that can kill you, but they are so far apart from each other you forget they exist by the time the next one happens.

Verdict:

Distraint 2 is good, really good. It's a really intriguing game with a great story, amazing visuals and atmosphere. However sadly the game is still pretty easy, short and less scary than the first game. However I still think it's worth purchasing and alongside the first game would make for one hell of a double feature.

Pros:
+ Emotional and intriguing story
+ Great art style
+ Amazing atmosphere

Cons:
- A lot of puzzles are pretty easy

Final Rating:
8/10
