Some other reviewers go as far as not recommending the game for a reason that the game focuses more on the story than fighting arenas and other game mechanics. While this might be the case I do not feel it should result in not recommending the game as the game is amazing, just bit different than the original. It is very apparent that the devs want more open less linear experience and I feel like they nailed the balance between limited resources for an indie game and big plans and ideas. It is still very linear experience (~which is not a bad thing~), but inclusion of HQ and more open big locations with multiple tasks that can be done in any order makes it feel like a more living actual world. This is something that I missed in the original game, where the game aesthetically was amazing and as someone who loves cyberpunk I missed not being able to interact with the world more. This certainly helps. When I first entered HQ I sat in the office for few minutes just looking out of the windows at the world around.

I absolutely love how console makers make games to showcase new and innovative features. This is basically for steam deck what Astro's playroom is for PS5 and it's absolutely amazing.

TL; DR: This game is remake of original Mafia with new features and vibe of new open world game. They respected original story and game itself is great, but if you expect remaster of original game, that will be same, but with better graphics, you will probably be disappointed (but I still recommend you to change your expectation and play this game anyway, because it is worth it)

This is not a remaster. This game is complete remake of original Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven and I personally think that 2K aced it. Yes, there may be some unwanted "new" features, which weren't present, in original game - like obnoxious HUD helping you a bit too much. I really don't want to put this as thing that would break the original experience, because that's just how games are nowadays (this is a problem, and we should not be okay with this, but since it is not relevant to this game only I won't include it as relevant to this review so keep this in mind). EDIT: After update this can be turned off, so you can turn off gps, hud marks and other stuff. GJ 2K

This game won't fill ya with old school feelings, but it will give you flashbacks to the original game. They respected the original game as much they could and made it from ground up again. Classic difficulty respects difficulty of old school games and is challenging and race can not be skipped just like in the original game.

Overall game is great and has its place in Mafia series and even tho it is not same as the Mafia, I think this perfectly fits next to it and if you haven't played original mafia play it first anyway. These two games are not the same, they just have a same story, and both are exceptionally great.

This is an interesting game, because you will be kind of slapped in the faced when you start the game for the first time. You are expecting sequel to Mafia 2 game and that just is not happening, and you are thrown inside a story that is hard to grab early into the game. But if you hold on to it and continue playing it will get easier, I would not want to use the term getting used to the game, but kind of is like that. Game will get better the more you play it, you will feel the story of game more and more until you find yourself in a middle of the story line. If you get past this first feelings of underwhelming story beginning and weird form of a gameplay when you take parts of the city and letting your minions control them and not having the expected very story driven gameplay without free roaming, exploring and side quests, game will start to feel good, like really good. Gameplay, soundtrack and graphics are amazing. If you launch this game with right expectation – good game from mafia era and less as direct sequel to mafia 2 – you will have great experience. This might not be best, nor great mafia game, but it is awesome mafia themed game.

I like this game. If u get good players in matchmaking (change 50%), its very funny.
