This game was a delight; a simple, fun platformer with lots of charm. I beat it in ~5.5 hours, but there are a ton of secrets that I will continue to search for.

The $25 price tag for a ~33 MB experience is well worth the money in this case.

As of May 6th 2024, Sony has stepped back on their decision to make PSN account linking mandatory due to the massive negative backlash. As long as Sony and Arrowhead keep themselves from another PR disaster, this game is a must buy: it's fun with friends, has a consistent flow of new content, and nearly all of the game can be accessed without spending more than the base $40 price.
My old review will remain below, as a testament to when the community managed to get one of the most stubborn game companies in the market to actually back down from an absurd decision, for once.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I actually created a PSN account to play this game on launch, thinking it was a requirement. After finding out it was optional I didn't think too much of it, since my PSN account is barebones and will more than likely never see any more information/data attached to it other than my Helldivers 2 statistics.
That being said, Sony making this a requirement several months after launch is entirely unacceptable.

PSN isn't available in every country, so they've immediately alienated anyone who wanted to play out of those countries, let alone anyone who's already purchased the game. This alone has cost them more potential profit than any other corporate decision could have.
Sony's history with dataleaks and breaches is laughable; it is downright pathetic that a massive company like theirs has so little regard for their consumer's security and personal information being compromised by anyone outside of their agencies. Even with what little information I've exposed to Sony just by making a PSN account, I'm still certain it'll be available to future black hats and whoever Sony themselves decide to sell it to under the table.

Helldivers 2 is an incredibly fun game, with an active and communicative development team at Arrowhead Studios ensuring the game's continued success with a free and consistent flow of content. It's unfortunate that their well-deserved praise has to be ruined by Sony's shameful marketing strategies and lack of common sense; their stubborn decisions to stay exclusive in the video game market will never bring them more success, it will only continue to bring about their downfall the same way it has been.

This game is incredible. Rockstar may not have the best multiplayer dev team but their singleplayer/Story side of the house seldom disappoints. My review doesn't cover the online experience and I don't plan on touching it, similar to how Rockstar is treating it these days...

The world is fun to explore, the sidequests/Stranger missions are engaging, and the shooting (albeit repetitive and simple) is still fun. All of that alone could have been enough to keep me playing for a couple of hours, but the story is what took me +70 hrs to finish, and that alone put this game on my personal Top 10 list for singleplayer experiences. I played it much later than I should have; had I not been spoiled of the ending back when this came out I'd have bawled my eyes out upon beating the story. The way that this game gets you to really care about so many of these characters and gang members is unreal.

If you have the patience, take your time playing this game. You'll get so much more out of it by exploring the world and becoming involved with the people in it.
