This is a brilliant remaster that's not too interested in updating the game itself, instead it's focusing on preserving 2 iconic pieces of media and presenting them to the players close to their original state. I believe the idea behind this approach is to give the players an opportunity to experience them as they were.

On top of the obvious graphical overhaul there is added polish coming with this remaster to accommodate modern needs. It contains several quality of life changes, such as subtitles, an interaction indicator, a compass and world map that helps you orient yourself in the world and the option to use the sticks of your controller to move Raziel and the camera. These were not present in the original games (or their PC ports - with the exception of the compass which was in SR2 by default), instead they were all added to the remaster to suit the audience of today and were implemented without compromising the gameplay.

The only thing I'm missing from this iteration of Soul Reaver is an option to be able to swap to a more modern control scheme. Having to hold a button to face an enemy while fighting feels extremely dated and uncomfortable, I wish there was a lock on system implemented to be used optionally, but as you can see, this is a minor gripe, nothing substantial.

Congratulations on the release and I hope this will boost the chance of the series being picked up again for a new instalment.
