Been a fan of Psychonauts since the first one, I still remember wasting hours trying to find every item in Whispering Rock Summer Camp. Love the look and feel of the series in general, and after finishing the sequel I would definitely recommend this game. There's a lot of thought put into the game and some genuinely good moments in the story, I was finding myself enjoying how the game played out beat to beat. The ending is worth it and I'm glad the game addressed its few loose ends at the end. Really hoping we can get another game within our lifetime. Recommend you play it with a controller if you can.
The game makes a few callbacks and references to the first two titles ("Psychonauts" and "Rhombus of Ruin"), but the game explains itself fairly well and I feel you can still get a good sense of what's going on with the narrative. If you are able to, I still recommend playing the first one if you can, just keep in mind the PC port of the first Psychonauts isn't perfect (good luck finding an OG Xbox version, although that's honestly still the best version to play).
My only real complaint is that there isn't any in-game concept art that we could look through like in the first game when you collected all the emotional baggage for the individual levels. Kinda left a bad taste in my mouth, it was one of the things that got me hooked on the first game and would've loved to have seen something like that here. Not a big gripe, but I thought I'd let it be known. Regardless, it doesn't change my opinion of the game. This is a definite must play!
