Leaving out some details to avoid spoilers.

I can not think of something this game needed less than an enemy that block attacks and requires you to play in as unfun a way possible.

The entire game to this point has taught the player to be aggressive. This is reflected in the design as your resources are very limited and you refill them in combat by being even more aggressive (glory kills/chainsaw). It took some time to get used to that style of play, but I found it fun once I understood it. Now a new mid-boss is introduced that is invincible if you are too close or too far away and thus punishes being aggressive.

I can see the value in adding an enemy that behaves completely differently to shake things up, but I don't enjoy it at all. I'll still finish the game, but this guarantees I'll never replay it.
