With Hearts of Iron IV, Paradox delivers an amazing WW2 grand strategy game where you can play as any nation or country that exists within the tumultuous periods of the mid-twentieth century (It's certainly one of the best and most complex WW2 games around). You're given the opportunity to explore your various focus trees that determine the industrial, military, and political aspects of your country in addition to the exploration of new technologies and the ultimate conduct of war.

By purchasing the base game alone, you'll be given the initial welcome to a few unique focus trees for the major powers to play with, in addition to unique model appearances and general staff/character figures. You'll also receive the full basic mechanics of the game, which although has quite a steep learning curve to it, will be found quite enjoyable and well balanced in terms of complexity and manoeuvrability. Although there's not really much substance to all the other minor nations in the base game (They're all given generic focus trees & model skins, although characters are historically accurate for most but some are still generalised), if you're a new player the content of the base game alone will be enough to satisfy you for months if you become an avid fan.

Of course, there's also HOI4's workshop community that'd we have to absolutely marvel about. In there you'll find tons of content made out of passionate fans and creators alike, from famous scenarios of different eras, WW2 content expansions, to alternate history scenarios fit with their own focus trees, playstyles, characters, & models (I.e. WW1, Medieval, Kaissereich, Road to 56, & The New Order to mention a few ) to simply a collection of different icons and cherry-on-tops (Did I mention there was a newspaper mod, where you can look at it everyday for news taking place in your world?). The best thing about mods from the workshop is that they're all FREE (with a very small minority requiring a purchase of a DLC). By just purchasing the base game alone, you get a lot of bang for your damn buck especially with all the high quality content coming from the workshop community alone.

In addition, there's also a plethora of additional content made by Paradox for HOI4 in the form of DLCs, that offer new WW2 content, focus trees, and in-game mechanics (Such as spies & espionage aspects from the La Resistance DLC). These DLCs will definitely improve the base game by making increasing it's complexity and diversity amongst different opportunities and mechanics, but are completely optional when it comes to enjoying HOI4 (Some may say otherwise).

Now I can't talk about everything that comes from this absolute marvel of a game, but from the outside it may just appear as a map painting game. However, what really perks everyone's interests are the aesthetics & political appearances of the nations controlled by the players, the details & designs of their divisional army & navy units (and the execution/how those units are used), and their playing strategies to dominate others or defend themselves! The enjoyment from the absolute detail of this game can only be felt by experiencing it alone, and as a result,

I highly recommend this game.
