EARTH DEFENSE FORCE: IRON RAIN - DLC Mission : Golden Storm (EDF:IR-DLCM-GS or EDF:GS for short) brings some additional combat missions with a new twist to the saga. In this shorter mini-campaign of 14x extra missions, the player joins Blast, the EDF skirmish brigade and leaps into action against old foes and new ones.

Available to be unlocked for soldiers of the EDF are 30+ new weapons, a special vehicle, and an additional PA-Gear - the Invisible Trooper. Also additional G-L.I.A.R variants. Essentially suit ability that summons a domesticated alien from several possible choices, under the control of the trooper.

Two unlockable cosmetic items are also available. The Military Cap headgear and (C) Sunglasses.

Brings together a few additional unlockable items to add to the plethora already in the base game. The weapons are probably the best things from this category.

The extra missions are welcome if just more of the same action. Bringing with them about 1-2hrs content plus whatever can be gleamed replaying at other difficulties. Limited, lacklustre or passable in nature. Maybe one or two are somewhat interesting.

Using the new PA-Gear was okay. The invisibility feature was fair bringing with it another dimension to play but again, the balance with the energy it used and what needed to be conserved to be useful were off. The capability of summoning tamed aliens through the G-L.I.A.R variants to do the players bidding, was another nice addition. Possibly the best thing about the DLC.

At least a few new enemies made it in but they are rehashes of existing assets. Still, better than nothing. For those that want to collect everything the few extra unlockable items and cosmetics. Would also like to know for certain what if any content within this EDF:GS is required for 100% the game. Its possible the achievements are all capped for the main game but until I get to those stages I wont know for sure. Just keep that in mind.

Its a DLC. One for a perfectly average game. Its unmemorable. Just about worth it on a good sale. Only if the gameplay cycle provided by the base game; play mission, gain rewards, unlock weapons, items and cosmetic almost ad infinitum, appealed to you.

Given that some achievements require the unlocking of all items, it *may* be a necessary purchase for 100%. But of this I am unsure. At least it is more than the other couple of dozen cosmetic only DLCs on offer for this game!!
