The game itself is good, if you look at it in the eyes of playing your average boomer shooter in-guise of something reminiscent of Half-Life 2's level design—but in my own opinion, those two don't blend well together because of the pacing, which is a LOT of this mod's problems.

In level design, the game pads out several sections by making you back track through an entire level's worth or two of sections you've already gone on through before. "Okay, but what's wrong with that?"—The biggest failure of the mod in a lot of sections, it's just not fun. Couple that with the painful colour correction, it genuinely does not work out well. I'm not sure with others but playing through Miami is actually physically painful because of the colours and how much it's unpleasant to the eyes. The game has you go through rooms and rooms of the same thing over, and over, and over again—there is barely anything else that breaks the monotony of it. I'd give it a pass on this if it was a mindless room-to-room shooter game, but it parades itself as a boomer shooter—and boomer shooters still had the regard to keep things interesting enough to gauge player interest. This one barely does anything in that regard, and is a general slog to go through.

Individually, the levels themselves present a pretty niche theme, with a nice little colour correction for each of them to fit the theme. The levels themselves have individual weapons that fit their timeline and I will say, I thoroughly enjoyed this part of the mod. Are the weapons fun? Hell yes. But the fun itself begun to die when you're presented with the bare standard HL2 weapons, which falls in contrast to the exciting weapons that the other eras themselves had.

The gameplay is considerably lacking and monotonous; it doesn't keep your interest that long because it has you go through the same things over, and over again with a different paint job after the next. It tries to alleviate this with puzzles, add new features like power-ups, but some of the powerups are poorly placed (especially in the NOIR section). An example would be the double damage power-up behind a door in NOIR, where in once you get it—you're presented with an underwhelming *two* enemies for you to kill, and a puzzle afterwards. The game itself lacks proper and thorough playtesting, and it shows.

Even with all of these, I have a hard time trying to figure out what the game is supposed to be, a boomer-shooter, or a fast-paced run n' gun game ala Hotline Miami, or something in between—mainly because of the puzzles that are added here and there and the pacing that tends to remove you out of the loop. You fight the same enemies over, and over again, go through the same level layout—fight with the same corresponding weapons, all for the duration of 2 - 3 hours with little to no pacing break, and it shows how rushed the game truly is, especially with the ending.

All in all, the game is great to play when you have nothing else to do this upcoming holiday—but I wouldn't say that it's a good boomer shooter; or whatever genre it shows itself to be.
