Path of Exile released in 2013 through the power of crowd funding, with many pinning their hopes on it being good enough to erase the disappointing initial release of Diablo 3.

Six years on PoE has become the go to hack and slash loot game on the market, it's Free-to-Play base supplemented by a microtransaction shop, sustains the development enough to offer continuous improvements to the game every three months or so. The main draw to the game is the open skill system, which allows for creative builds regardless of the base character you choose. While this can seem daunting at first, it soon begins to make sense as you start to invest skill points. Furthermore abilities aren't locked to your initial 'class' character either. Abilities drop in the form of gems which can be slotted into equipment. This means you can have Witches with swords and tanking abilities, and Rogue-like characters with powerful magic spells.

It's all satisfying once it clicks.

That's the only issue with PoE, it will take some time to invest into how the game works and how character builds can be developed. This isn't as cookie cutter as Diablo, and because of that it is flourishing.

Try it out for a weekend, after all it is free.

Oh man, that does suck. Losing your backer account isn't good at all. I remember how annoyed I was when DC Online messed about with accounts and how owned what in Europe. I lost all the DLC I had purchased. Never installed the game again.

I live in Taiwan. But yea, can't even use my backer account (backed the game before it was even launched) nor can I play it anymore on steam. Also it is patches behind. I mean thankfully they let one use a standalone launcher so I can still use my other account.
