Linux Review

★☆☆☆☆ 1/5 - Trash

Got a gift copy for Christmas from a friend. I wish I told them to just save their money and not bother.

The game has a native Linux build but it's completely broken. You can't get past the initial loading screen with the rotating tank model. With Proton experimental it did eventually load after 4-5 minutes.

When I finally got to the main menu, it's pretty obvious this is either a Unity asset-flip or a port of a mobile game. There is no multiplayer, story mode or tutorial, so I started a skirmish game on the first available map - which also had a 2-3 minute load time. To put this in perspective, the 8 minutes I've spent in loading times on this play session makes up 24% of my 33 minutes total playtime.

As expected, this game was not worth the wait. Units don't pathfind properly and often get stuck on each other. Enemy units don't have health bars or damage feedback, so it's impossible to tell if you're doing an effective amount of damage. There's no in-game tutorial or tooltip explanations of what units actually do or what they counter. The knock-off "Frank Klepacki" music often drowns out other audio cues. You can't even do basic RTS things like "attack move".

There's much better RTS options out there, some of which are open-source/freeware and have decent Linux support. For example:
