A thrilling conclusion to the events set up in Max Payne, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne is a rollercoaster ride of intrigue and murder. Sam Lake is a god of videogame writing, and it shows here as plot twists and betrayals abound and leave you wondering if it ever really was black and white.

The gunplay is stellar, but special note must be given to the bullet-time and shootdodge mechanics of MP2. In MP1, you could only slow down time when you dodged, which was a good but flawed mechanic. In MP2, you can use bullettime without dodging (though shootdodge remains a viable option) and every kill you make while in the slowed timescale refills your bullettime meter a small function. If you're quick and skillful, you can keep it up for a long time.

Overall, I'd recommend this game if you're a fan of noir, good storytelling, great gunplay and/or the first game.

Rocksteady took all the great things from Batman: Arkham Asylum and then set them to overdrive in this explosive sequel. The combat is tighter, more fluid, and has a lot more variety, while stealth has been vastly improved, thanks largely to a less-useful Detective Vision. The story is much better than the previous game's, also, and includes nods to and appearances by classic, less-well-known Batman characters. I've yet to finish every side mission as there are quite a few, and I haven't played the Harley Quinn's Revenge DLC yet, but let me just say that this game is worth it just for the main storyline, even if you never play a challenge map or side quest.


10 out of 10 muscular Batman Beyond asses.

p.s. The DLC is great for this game, and if it's on sale I cannot recommend the skins pack enough.
