Cool little game, sadly I completely broke it on my 3rd run going with the minigun for radiation, cone, fire rate, flashbang, exp magnet, if i recall correctly. Will probably come back to it when/if it gets optimized a bit better.

This is not an analysis of the game but some personal thoughts.

What a time to be alive. I wholeheartedly recommend the game to any tactics, mech, or RPG fan. After the let downs of Battletech, Phantom Brigade, and others, whom I do respect for trying something new (but the end product is just meh), finally the revival of the absolutely best series in the niche genre happens. Although the "modern" mode is in my opinion wasted time and funds, in other words it's inferior to the "classic" mode design, and the terrible balancing of weapon types and difficulties, this is it. This is the king series, and I'm so hyped to get to the pinnacle of it, the one true king Front Mission 3. I'm so happy they decided to bring it to Steam and so I can support it financially and via review, I remember even asking for it on Twitter, afraid it would never come to Steam. What a time to be alive, we get the FM series remake, and we will get Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon by FromSoftware. 2023 is the year the 'mech' genre and fans were waiting for, for so long!!!

I just can't recommend this game when a Front Mission 3 (1999) exists, Battletech just doesn't have what it takes.

I didn't put as much time into the game as would one would expect, hence among problems that many other modern MMOs (e.g., FF14, WoW: Shadowlands, etc.) have, Lost Ark has a tendency to get super "boring" really quick. Extremely monotonous and unrewarding process of leveling, you'll get a very safe conveyor belt experience that leaves you with zero thought and understanding put into it, you could give the leveling process to your pet gold fish to do for you since there is no way to botch anything. That is not too hard to forgive since many MMOs nowadays follow the same trend of dumbing down the leveling process. The endgame is where the bigger problem lies, the whole endgame is plainly said, doing daily chores on as many characters as you possibly can do to acquire as many resources as you possibly can, to then all dump it onto your main character. If juggling daily quests on multiple characters is fun to you, no offense, I'd myself probably go see a doctor. Now if you do find that boring, there is an alternative for you, you can swipe your credit card a couple of times to skip the whole tedious grinding, in which case, I'd even more so go see a doctor. If you are looking to explore a wast open world freely and getting rewarded for deviating from the set path of the main quest, not the game for you, although some other genres effectively adopted the open world formula that old MMORPG games had based the core of their success on, Lost Ark comes close to a mobile game like shallow and soulless instance-based experience that leaves no room for emersion into the fantasy setup it throws you in. Lastly and sadly, another thing Lost Ark has in common with mobile games is the P2W factor, or for some not to get mad because they don't believe it's pay to win, it's a pay for extreme convenience game. Among multiple starter packs that you can also purchase in-game (yep, they are "in your face"), there is a cash shop. The way the game tries to monetize this is by, if you are a free to play player and try to be as efficient as possible, being disadvantaged to pay to win players as you are, with all the tediousness the games throws at you, it will highly motivate you to just bring out the credit card number just to get those convenience functionalities. The whole concept is intentional on part of the devs, to just make you give in on spending money just to keep up and not feel like you're wasting your time by playing the game. In the end you'll get the full mobile game experience, on PC, pay to skip chores. Here I'm not going to address the bugs and problems of the game and how unprofessional the devs, compared to others, have been in dealing with said, since there are quite a number of them.

In conclusion, I did try to enjoy Lost Ark, but the poor execution of the game trying to be an immersive fantasy experience and a full-blown MMO simply killed it for me. Adapting so many mobile game concepts and functions, leaving out everything that once made good MMORPG fun and engaging for the player, brought me to simply give up on the game and tell you that I do not recommend you play this game. If you do give it a try, I believe you'll soon notice all the above observations that me and many players have made with the game until the date of this review losing more than 50% in its concurrent player base. Cheers.

You could hardly call this a game, or art, or anything, mostly feels like a bad LSD ripoff.
