One of the best roguelikes ever made. Objective (subjective) improvement over the other Spelunky games. Incredible punishing and incredible slick controls, the game somehow demands a higher skill and competence than even the developers could expect. Magically, this procedurally generated platformer creates more mechanical complexity than if each room was meticulously planned out.

A great puzzle game even for those who don't generally enjoy sokobans. The puzzles and mechanics are clever, intuitive and consistent. Each new mechanic or interaction between mechanics is well tutorialized by a simple but not trivial puzzle. The rewind features make experimentation feel encouraged though it could use a fast forward for some sections. Overall this is a very standard and high quality puzzle game.

A promising roguelike, easily compared to Balatro. Unlike Balatro, the joker card equivalents are not that important to the gameplay. Most important to a successful run are the "coins," the equivalent of your deck in Balatro. Before unlocking the powerful coins, you have to rely on coins with polynomial scaling as your most powerful scoring options. Unfortunately, there are coins with exponential scaling, and once they are unlocked, every run is only uncertain and challenging until you add one of them to your coin rack. Finding a single exponentially scaling coin just wins the run. The game is fun in its current state but it would be more mechanically interesting if every exponentially scaling coin (including percentcoin because score scales exponentially) was removed. As for the high score grind unlocks, that should be removed too because it's just a boring mindless grind with return percentcoins.

UFO50 is a wonderous variety of fully realized experimental games. With so many games, everyone's favorite style of game is somewhere within the pack. When going for completions, I found many games I dismissed for not being my type of game became my new favorites. Every game has something interesting to it; there is no filler among the 50 games in this collection.

Everything good about Disco Elysium with a Dungeons and Dragons type setting. The writing is a little less subtle than Disco. There is a mechanic to retry skill checks that makes you feel less compelled to reload saves when you fail. I find Esoteric Ebb to be a more accessible alternative to Disco for those who felt punished by Disco's systems or for those who are looking for a game like Disco Elysium.
