I really wanna like this game. I picked it up because I like the developers, I like the idea, etc. It just feels like it's an early access game. Some people say that's just its indie budget showing, but there is a genuine lack of polish. It feels bare. The mechanics aren't fleshed out as much as I'd like. Maybe I didn't give it enough time to play, but it was not worth it, in my opinion.

The horde of aliens doesn't feel like a horde. This is due to their very basic animations and pathfinding, and they are completely silent besides the special aliens. In a zombie-type game, you want to really feel the horde. You don't in this game. The special infected don't even really feel all that meaty or significant. Very barebones and lack of actual art.

Killing zombies is what you'll be doing most of the time in a zombie game, so that has to feel good. But it doesn't in this game. The ragdolls have almost nothing to do with how you shoot them. There is very little, if any, impact FX. There seems to be no death animations. No dismemberment. No staggering. Nothing besides shooting a zombie till its dead, and it then falls mostly limp to the floor, sometimes clipping and glitching out.

And while in other games, there's much more to break up killing/shooting zombies, this game has you exclusively fighting. Almost all the time. Just walking down random hallways, with poorly triggered voice lines sometimes cutting it and being swiftly interrupted by random barks. Speaking of...

The voice acting is flat and seems like a first draft. The voice lines are sometimes approaching something meaningful and approaches character building, but it isn't done at all good compared to any other game in this genre, especially modern ones. The cutscenes don't help either. They're very dry, short and don't do much to advance the world or characters. There's very, very little lines where I could say that line was unique to that character. Most of the lines said by one person could be said by any of the cast. That's a bad sign for a game like this.

So in short, this game is just not finished, and I doubt it ever will be. The developers seem like they're losing interest and seeing this as mostly a lost cause. I hope they prove me wrong but there's only like 50% of the game here. It's not fun at the moment and really needs lots of work. And I would so much enjoy if they did take this review to heart, which I know they would if they could, but I just worry that the lack of resources, interest, and the mounting work might make this game largely the same as it is now, even with a few more updates.
