In a joined Calculus class with engineers and pure maths students, a problem was presented on the board. The problem was finding the limit as X approaches zero from the right side for the function sin(x)/x, which is indeterminate. The function asked the math student, "Who would win, him or you?" He said, "Nah, I'd win." The math student said, "Ha, just use the L'Hôpital's Rule," and began differentiating the numerator and denominator, and ended up with sine(x) over 1. Now, plugging in x at 0, ended up with the limit equaling 1. With that, the math student had successfully solved the problem.

The engineer got out his pen and asked the math student, "Are you a math student because you're a nerd, or are you a nerd because you are a Math's student?" The Math's student replied, "Stand proud, you're strong, but the only way to solve this problem is the Squeeze Theorem, the L'Hôpital's Rule, or Taylor's series expansion."

For unbeknownst to the math student, the engineer does not need exact solutions and uses methods that are illegal in math classes. The engineer used sin(x) ≈ x for small values of x and simplified the equation from x/x to 1 over 1 and found the limit to also be 1 and said, "Nah, I'd also win."
