Type of Game: Visual Novel – Reading & Choices
Length: about 3h
Story: 8/10
Art: Fried Chicken /10

So, somehow I got a recommendation to play this game because it was a popular otome on steam and I thought “Well, why not?”

I mean, everyone is into handsome old men, who can cook chicken and serve it in a bucket. And on top of it I had heard that it’s funny, so well, I just gave it a go.

This game is about you enrolling at a cooking academy to improve your skills. This academy is very special because one semester lasts only three days and your teacher is a dog . In these three days you not only have to obtain the affection of the handsome and irresistible Colonel Sanders, but master a huge amount of cooking challenges and even one pop quiz. Then you have to fend against evil foes as your archrival Ashley (yes, I call her that because I don’t even remember, how she called herself in the game besides it having been spelled totally wrong) and her friend Van Van. And don’t forget that it’s important to maintain the close relationship you have with your best friend Miriam (it’s not good to just go after the Colonel and ignoring your bestie like that).

There is not much to say about the actual plot of this game because it’s made to be rather funny, focussing more on irony and chicken. I’d say it’s made to “laugh” at the otome genre (like e.g. Hatoful Boyfriend), not to be taken as a serious game to begin with. More or less, depending on your choices you can either get together with the Colonel or you don’t (besides the huge amount of hilariously exaggerated scenes and some references aka Am I the only one thinking of JoJo, when I see Van Van?). Let’s say the plot kept me entertained because this game is short enough to make you not get tired of the jokes and doesn’t require much of a plot. What it does really good is that even though it has no actual plot, it really delivers the idea (the focus on the chicken) and the structure/flow of the story is always kept (there are no illogical time skips or parts of the story, where you feel irritated).

About the characters: They all have distinct personalities and either are friendly or spiteful towards you (and their relationships depends on your actions too because you can e.g. kind of fight with Miriam ). While your best friend Miriam is somehow a crybaby and overly emotional and Ashley has a twisted mind and multiple personalities (apparently), your crush the Colonel is like the ideal prince on a horse literally – and all of them stay true to their initial personality (there are no sudden illogical changes in the behaviour of the characters besides if it’s needed for the humour).

The gameplay itself is like every gameplay in an otome: You have choices to make and either your romantic interest likes them or not. However, most of the time you are just reading text. While I am at it: The art is typical for an otome too. I don’t think it’s bad, but it’s nothing special either.

In the end, I can say that this is a pretty interesting game to pass time, if you have time (like I bet most of us have right now). This game is pretty short and keeps you entertained for at least 2-3h reading time. It doesn’t have a special idea or anything, but it’s a fun read. As long as you don’t try to take it serious or think of it as a representation of the otome genre.
But DANGER AHEAD: You gonna crave chicken after reading this. So be careful. (Am really sad right now, because I don’t have any at home T_T)…
