Then there's a bunch of side activities to do if you're bored during your shift: car races, time trials, collectibles to find... Plenty to do.

But the shifts were never repetitive for me, in fact they were always unpredictable and unexpected. Even when driving towards your patrol area, you can encounter cars speeding up and you can choose to chase them or just ignore them. No matter what type of shift you pick up, you can just ignore the main activity (say, giving parking tickets) and instead answer to call requests for incidents nearby. And this gives you some adrenaline rush.
