The Binding of Isaac is a game that I will hold close to my heart until the end of time

Ever since my purchase of this game on the Christmas of 2015, I have loved this game. To it's ridiculous synergies with items, to the unique quirks of every character, The Binding of Isaac is a game I am still to this day, finding out new things to discover. 700+ items and 188 trinkets makes this game seem like it had ever ending combos.

Afterbirth, Afterbirth+, and Repentance have improved this game for the better, yes, it's more money from your mother's credit card you're stealing for more content, but it's content that is worth unlocking and discovering within the game. Every dlc will add 2 or more characters and they somehow made them more and more unique every dlc than the last. Characters like the Forgotten, a skeleton who swings a bone and can switch to a soul like counterpart who shoots tears.

I bought the game a few months after the dlc Afterbirth released, so I didn't have just the Rebirth experience, I didn't know Afterbirth+ was a thing until probably a month after that one release in January of 2017, but Repentence was the dlc I was truly excited for. The fact that it was a collab between the Antibirth (a Rebirth mod) devs and the Isaac devs, it was truly something to be hyped for.

Like I have said before, the characters have their own uniqueness to them all, by uniqueness, I mean by comparing them to the base character of the game, Isaac. He's the foundation for comparing to other characters, (unless you're Lazarus, then your quirk is dumb). Now, with the addition of the selection of tainted characters with the Repentance dlc, there's more than 30 characters to play as throughout your playtime.

From this point forward, I will be addressing the game by "Isaac"

Actually playing the game, Isaac is very simple, just reach to the final boss and beat them, then go to this new final boss and beat them, then beating them 9 more times, then- Alright, there's a lot of final bosses, mostly because there are multiple paths you can take in this game. Some paths are shorter than others. You have to figure out the secrets of the game to get to further paths and more unlocks. Now, from this being a rougelite, once you die in the game, it's all the way back to the beginning. RNG is a main play in this game like any rougelite, getting random items, random enemies to go against, getting random trinket, and so on and so forth. A lot of the gameplay of this game is remembering how enemies work and memorizing which items to what. With 700+ items, 188+ trinkets, and 431+ enemies and bosses, you'd think you won't remember everything right? Well, just spend over 500 hours like me being addicted to this game and you'll memorize stuff in no time.

Repentance

This segment isn't going to be long, I just wanted to separate this dlc from other 2 and the base game.

Repentance was the most hyped up dlc for this game without a doubt, with the flop that was Afterbirth+, this one was going to be promising. With so much content on the way, and all of this excitement, who wouldn't? Unfortunately, we had to wait 3 YEARS for this dlc to come out. There were a few reasons why, but you do your research on that. The point is, those 3 years for me at least, were worth the wait, this dlc added so much to the game, even more than Afterbirth+ post all of the booster packs they released. This was big. This dlc made the game harder in every aspect. It's a lot more of the challenge to completely break a run, which a lot of people were very angry about, but for me, I respect it. I now don't feel the urge of trying to break the game every run I have, I actually want to play the game normally.

Conclusion

This game is great, and you can't change my mind. It's a challenging experience that I will always hold close to my heart, with it's completely dark plot, to the agonizing pain of dying so far in a run, it's great. Now give Edmund your money, right now.
