19.8 hrs on record (3.4 hrs at review time)
Fast paced, heart pounding, duck and weave, shoot and dodge, old school FPS action. No walls, no red jam health damage on the screen, no limited arsenal. Grunt and shoot and crush your way through hordes of enemies, just like your ancestors did at LAN parties back in the 90s.

Mind you some modern flourishes have made their way onto Doom's bloody canvas. There are RPGish upgrades for your weapons and armor, and instead of collecting health packs and ammo drops scattered throughout the level, you mostly rely on squeezing your enemies to pieces and straining items and health out of their pulpy remains, like a glass of violent lemonade.

Level length is a bit longer than both old and modern styles, easily 1h+ for a single level. You might find the constant grimdark and relentless beat of combat to wear on you after a while. At those times I'd advise taking a break. Also you might start cursing the moment you realize they tastefully updated everything except the freaking color-coded keycards. It's like they updated their house with a new stove, microwave and refrigerator, but left in the 1900s style hand-cranked washing machine.
