Damn-near perfect games:

FPS: DOOM
Platformer: Hollow Knight
Puzzle: Inside

The above list is so close to perfect it's hard to imagine anything better. I could write essays on the design decisions in these games and how each creates a specific atmosphere and gaming experience.

Although less perfect, some of my all-time personal favorite games:

Strategy: XCOM 2
Multiplayer: Deep Rock Galactic
