The game is weirdly much better than the sum of its parts, most of which seem like shallow copies of other games that it used as inspiration. The story actually ended up being pretty decent, despite having one of the worst beginnings I think I've ever experienced (was the game made by Ubisoft? lol). The key is that the different systems do a pretty good job feeding into each other, so the shallowness of the individual game play loops is offset by the interplay between them. The game has the day timer similar to Stardew, so you sort of have a time (and energy) limit to your daily activities, but the level design is excellent, with dungeons that sort of loop back on themselves, with shortcuts constantly opening up so that your next trip to the dungeon allows you to easily progress further.

If you're looking for an action JRPG with a solid shake of Stardew Valley mixed in, you could do a lot worse. It has a nice, almost soothing, daily game play loop that is somewhat satisfying. 7 out of 10

Scarlet Nexus is a game that is right on the line for me, one that i've enjoyed for my 13 hours or so, but I think might over stay it's welcome before I beat it it. The game play is generally good, with over the top visuals, crazy powers, and all the other stuff that you would expect, and the story actually has a number of wtf twists and turns that keep it pretty interesting. Unfortunately, like a lot of other current anime-heavy JRPGs of late, it including a pace killing relationship side 'quest' system, which is basically you buying presents for team members and then going through long dialog sequences that make sure to go through every cliche JRPG-set-with-high-schoolers cliche trope. It doesn't kill the game, and you can largely skip the sequences and just collect the exp to level up your relationship, but the sudden pace shifts tend to break my engagement to the point of it usually ending my play session.

This game gets one thing right, and while its the most important thing, it is ultimately impossible to overcome just how much they did wrong.

First, the good: the game play/gun play is awesome. The guns feel great, the movement is fast and fluid, it runs great. The shooting and movement, the two most important things, by far, in a fast paced FPS, and they nailed them. This is how guns and movement in FPS should feel. If you've ever been turned off by a game because you felt like the guns seemed so weak and underwhelming, you'll enjoy playing with Necromunda's guns; they thump in the best sort of way. There's some issues with accuracy when aiming down the sites (the game can be waaaaay off), its really not as large an issue as you'd think, because you hip fire at least 70% of the time, and almost never take anything close to a 'sniper' shot (despite the huge levels). Everything that goes into the power fantasy of being a bad ass, gun blasting, bounty hunter, double jumping, wall running, and grappling hooking across levels while you never stop firing is there in spades.

So why the thumbs down? Almost everything else. The menus and UI look like they didn't have a UI/UX designer on staff, and just had random developers each make one menu - they're awkward to use, have weird and inconsistent keybindings, and are rife with just basic, fundamental design flaws (ie, don't make things that aren't buttons, look like buttons). These design issues really start to come up in the levels, which are simultaneously impressively huge and detailed, and also so poorly designed that you're barely able to see anything and waste a ton of time exploring dead ends. Basic design mistake #1: creating areas of the level that have no purpose - they have hidden chest to encourage you to hunt around, but the levels are so huge in scale, you inevitably end up trying to go somewhere you're not suppose to and die. Basic design mistake #2: inconsistent/hard to see colorings to mark in game items. This is really basic game design - you use consistent and unique coloring to make items and parts of the level (ie, climbable ledges) that the player needs/interacts with easy to see. They just...don't...and you will have trouble spotting basically anything from a distance, including most bad guys. The dog will mark enemies for you, and you can get some powers that help, but there is really no good substitute for bright, easy to discern, coloring.

There's also some bugs and some of the normal, and some acceptable 'double a jank' with things like animations, but the audio is almost inexcusably broken right now. Music and guns sound ok, but all of the voices in the game are glitched and play at almost an inaudible volume, including in cut scenes. I'm assuming they'll fix this shortly (they've already patched/improved it once), so I don't really deduct points for this.

Ultimately, the game is a lot of fun, as in the game play and movement. Everything else just hurts the experience. If you love the source IP, this is a pretty solid game, because the flaws probably won't bug you much, you're here for the warhammer. If you loved something like Doom 2016, and you already beat Doom Eternal, then I guess this isn't a terrible option - the gameplay is similar enough that if you enjoyed one, you'll probably enjoy the other. Most other games still occupying this sort of space are retro style shooters, so it being an underserved niche, if this sort of FPS is your jam, you'll probably enjoy it. Everyone else though, will be turned off by and unwilling to get past the bugs, jank and awkwardness to enjoy the admittedly fun gameplay.

It's just not very good. Really wonky interface, really rough around the edges, the same shaky in-game mechanics that plagued X-Com 2 are still here and fully present. I really like X-Com 1, and generally enjoyed X-Com 2 despite it's significant steps back in some of the game play mechanics. But here, the wheels finally completely fell off. It just feels ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to play.

I've only played in VR, and it's one of the coolest things I've ever played in a video game. It basically makes Star Tours at Disneyland obsolete. The campaign is ok so far, nothing too crazy, and the multiplayer is fun, though not crazy deep. They nailed the game play though, so the secondary stuff doesn't matter as much. It would be nice if they added more content, but they've said they're not planning on it.

Really good double A RPG, a solid recommend. Game is somewhere between AC:O and Horizon: Zero Dawn, with a few borrowed mechanics from Mass Effect - it has much better narrative and variety than AC:O, but can't match the amount of triple A polish that H:ZD received. The few negatives are far from game breaking - an NPC character model or two are used a few too many times, a few very minor QOL things.

Early Access Review
Great PvE bullet hell/loot shooter. Kill things to earn money, find chests to spend the money on, get a (semi) random upgrade from the chest. Find the teleporter to spawn the boss, beat him to move on. Repeat on the next level. The game gets hard the longer you play - literally and in real time - so you have to balance completely clearing out a level of loot vs quickly trying to get to a further stage before the difficulty starts to crank. Just play it and find out

A very good baseball game. Wish they had the MLB, but there's tools that let you import fan made rosters and uniforms, check google or reddit. There's season mode, but even if you import the MLB teams, there's no franchise mode - so no trading, no minor leagues, no draft, no free agency, etc. The team rosters are also a little smaller than a real team, notably from the pitchers.

Don't let my knitpicking fool you though, the part that matters, the game play, is excellent. It is a little more on the arcade-y side, especially in art style, but it plays surprisingly true when you have the difficulty tuned properly.

If you're expecting Kingdom Rush, only in space, you're going to be in for a surprise. It's a decent follow up, but it's a very different game, and imho, not as good. They tried something different, to break away from more of a pure TD game to more of a lite RTS, and it's a bit hit or miss. The game was clearly made with love, with lots of little callouts and easter egg-type references to other games and sci fi franchises. In the end, its a nice little game to play when you have 10 minutes here or there, but if you haven't played all the Kingdom Rush games yet, I'd play those first
