Grinding to get that gear/frame so you can grind more efficiently.
Sure, you could just play for funsies, but it probably would only be good in short bursts.

Everything is locked behind some kind of gate...
lootgate (which is fine),
or paygate (somewhat fine),
and/or timegate (-_-).

Meanwhile, everything is designed to give off a feeling of FOMO... including their weekly streams on Twitch for Twitch drops.

Can't fault them too much as a business, as it's working for them; from this player's perspective, however, I wouldn't say the time investment is worth it.

There's not much there.

Try it if you want; just know when to quit.

(I pop in every now and then bc FOMO, but I don't really play it for reals anymore... not really.)

Once the novelty wears off, you realize it's just a game of hide-and-seek.
Unfortunately there just isn't enough substance to the game mechanics in the current engine that warrants much investment (although I laud the developers for milking the game for all they can get - especially with the licenced killers)

When I do check into the game these days it's just to get daily in-game rewards from events (FOMO?); if I do play it, it's against bots as a killer - which I do find kinda fun sometimes from a casual standpoint.

Played it a bunch when it first came out (albeit only for PvE). It's a good mix of quasi tactical + hero shooter co-op style.

While the gameplay is generally pretty fun and enjoyable, the grind is not, Level progression isn't entirely a bad thing, but I just find the investment required to unlock cosmetics & emotes through crates / battlepasses either through time or financial means entirely disrespectful to the player (I realize a lot of games use battlepasses to gate content this way too, which I'm not a huge fan of). To put in that much effort just for inconsequential things just turns me off from the game.

PS: They recently released a way for people to just straight up buy their way to maxed out operators too; those who play in the pvp realm might get miffed at that.

I still check in once in a while though for whatever reason :|

Early Access Review
Review Revisited:
Steam should have a neutral/mixed option. I will leave my review as positive, as I did have fun with the time I spent with this game. It has potential to be an even better one; the one thing really holding it back is the slow progression.

I haven't loaded up the game in months due to how much of a grind the game can be... and until this changes, I'm afraid I will not go back.. and wouldn't suggest anyone else do so either.

If a game does not value _your_ time and energy, why should you value theirs?

Of course, this could all change down the road.. but for now, I say "thanks for all the fish."

Original Review:
Fun and addicting first person shooter being developed in the midst of a real-life war.
The gunplay and its customization is pretty good; the characters you can play as each have their own special abilities while not tying you down to traditional archetypes (all characters can dish out the same damage using guns).

I have not (and will not) jump into the PVP (something that doesn't really interest me much anymore), but it does have a following.

I prefer to have fun in the PVE expeditions, where teamplay and (currently non-verbal) communication are key.

Sometimes the non-verbal communication can be fun :).

Challenging yet fun management type of game - makes for great couch co-op sessions!

Rat race for items that don't really mean much in the end.

Still, a fun game in short bursts - the costumes can be pretty fun to see.

The counter system in this game can be a little difficult to master depending on which characters you play; once you get the hang of it, though, it can be truly satisfying!

Characters can be unlocked based on in-game resources; unless you are willing to pay for them outright with real-world money, be prepared to put in quite a lot of time into the game.

A fun psych game with an awesome soundtrack : )

It starts out simple, and then it tacks on some special twists to keep things interesting =D

I haven't played this game in a while, as I find it takes up too much time if you let it, but it's still an enjoyable match-3 gatcha game.

-----

Contrary to what some people have said, you don't _need_ to pay in order to win (granted, things are probably a lot more competitive at the higher tiers).

The game is pretty addictive and can get pretty strategic (roster/health management) during story events.

It's also pretty fun to come up with synergistic teams and watch some of the power animations during battles.

This game can suck a lot of your time tho if you let it ... especially when you're trying to climb the event leaderboards. I suggest to just stick to achieving progression rewards.

One tip I have if you're going to try the game: find out which characters are worth keeping, and which you can ditch - it's important not to hoard your heroes/villains because roster slots will eventually become more and more expensive; not all characters are worth their weight
