A surprisingly enjoyable and accomplished 3D hidden cats game which can be difficult but feels very rewarding.

I have played a couple of 3D hidden object games before and they have been bad. Admittedly, they have been from a poor developer but I wasn't holding out much hope for Hidden Cats in Venice, but surprisingly it was a very decent attempt which I enjoyed playing. It was addictive and challenging, and felt very rewarding to find those cats mixed around Venice's waterways and buildings.

I've almost completed everything on offer, I just cannot find two cats on one of the bigger levels, so there is about three hours of content here divided into nine levels. I realized afterwards that I started with the harder levels because they are first in the list on the menu. The other list of four levels are obviously the tutorial levels, as they are much smaller, so I'm not sure why they weren't at the top and made obvious that there is a scale of progression. It didn't matter to me because I am a veteran at these games and knew what to expect, but newcomers will want to play the easier levels first, so just watch out for that.

The 3D works really well and is quite beautifully realized with some picturesque views of Venice and some lovely looking cats that often ate licking their fur or moving in some way. Perhaps it could have been more alive with working Gondolas and flying pigeons for example, but maybe I am being too harsh on an honest hidden object game. The game is quite GPU intensive though and it certainly caused my PC to heat up on my I7 8900K and RX 6800. I did also get some screen tearing but frame rates were steady. It didn't ruin my experience of the game.

The controls are quite easy to use. The view goes up and down and moves right and left. If you move left or right around a building it automatically spins around the building for you and is very intuitive. Some of the cats are very well hidden in some very out of the way places, and often you will need to get the camera angle perfect to be able to spot them. They can be hiding behind objects and are only visible from certain angles, or even so far away in the distance that you need to zoom to max to be able to see them. A frequent trick of the game is to hide a black cat in the shadows and they can only be spotted with a very close up camera.

There are no hints in the game but there is a location finder of sorts in the form of a cat's meow when a cat is in your frame of vision. I found this to be accurate and very useful, as you can move the camera around from a far away angle until you hear the noise and then start zooming in on certain areas. They can still be very difficult to find however, but it feels very rewarding when you do.

There are nine achievements to obtain, mostly from finishing complete levels, but there are also some very well hidden penguins to find which are difficult so it won't be an easy 100% without a guide.

🍳Conclusion🍳
Hidden Cats Invade Venice is a charming hidden objects game with the added bonus of it being in 3D, and it works really well. 2D hidden object games are fun but 3D definitely brings a different dimension to object finding with some fiendishly difficult placements.

If you are looking for a hidden objects game that has a bit more difficulty, but is still relaxing and charming to play, then I would highly recommend you give this one a try.
