About my gaming
Hi, I'm Blarg. Welcome to my little profile. I have very eclectic tastes and play all sorts of stuff but overall I find my favorite games tend to be singleplayer and have something to say. I do enjoy multiplayer though. Currently I am aiming to knock out some of the games in my backlog, so as to eliminate some of my choice paralysis, which is part of is why I'm currently not buying or receiving games for my Steam library. It's also nice to have money to spend on other things.

What I'm playing lately
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (BioWare)
Sort of a precursor to the Mass Effect games, also by BioWare, which are some of my favorite games I've played (you might be able to tell from this profile). In fact, finishing this game is the prerequisite I've set for myself for doing another playthrough of the Mass Effect games. So far though it's very good in its own right, and it's been a surprisingly enjoyable experience on the Steam Deck, even with some of the issues that naturally arise from being a 20-something year old game.
Subnautica (Unknown Worlds)
I need an emotional support fish.
Pyre (Supergiant Games)
I have tried to get through this game a few times, as I've always really enjoyed Supergiant's stuff, but I was admittedly never able to get very far. Recently though I gave it another shot, and I'm actually really enjoying it! I think I'm at a point where I'm better able to engage with and appreciate it, especially now that I've developed such an affinity for storytelling over the past couple years, and boy this game's got a lot of that. It's half visual novel, half magical soccer, and there is a ton of lore. If you've played Hades, you can see how this game built to that. And, of course, Darren Korb's music never misses.

My favorite games
Halo (Bungie, 343 Industries)
Halo: Reach is just about my favorite video game of all time (though ODST's is my favorite soundtrack), but really all of Bungie's Halos are spectacular. They're practically a modern day sci-fi myth, as they take a lot of inspiration from mythology, theology, and poetry. I grew up with CE and 2 on the original Xbox, and never got to play the others until the MCC came to Steam. Out of 343's stuff, I've only played 4's multiplayer and a tiny bit of Infinite. They're OK, but they're not the same. The Master Chief Collection's $60, which is actually a pretty great per-game value with 6 full games, but it's also very often on sale for $10.
Mass Effect (BioWare)
Hoo boy, these games. They're far from perfect but they are some of the most emotionally impactful games I've ever played, and I am countlessly tempted to play through the whole series again. The worldbuilding is so rich, the characters are complex and will stay with you for a long time (I love Mordin, you might be able to tell), and the games are reactive to the choices you make in so many neat ways. Overall they've come to share a spot with the Halo games in my ranking. I highly recommend them, especially since the Legendary Edition is on sale for less than $10 CRIMINALLY often, though honestly I think it's worth the full price. (It is EA though, so... do what you will that information.)
Transistor (Supergiant Games)
I love this game simply because it made possible the existence of the soundtrack, which is one of the best video game soundtracks ever made in my opinion, but I may also be biased because I've listened to it for many years at this point. That said, the game itself is still great! The art's gorgeous, and the story is really well-written, though it can feel bare bones if you don't take the time to unlock and read the lore entries as you progress through the game; it's very subtle with its worldbuilding. You kind of have to piece things together. Its ending is very emotional. The gameplay is strategic and relies on your combination of various functions to create fun and devastating attacks, and it also gives you a "Turn()" function that freezes time so you can effectively plan a chain of attacks and execute them at lightning speed. Overall, it's a pretty good game in my opinion, and one I like to replay every few years.

There will likely be more stuff added to this for the future but for now this is all. Thank you for reading, have a nice day! =)
Review Showcase
Halo: Reach is my favorite video game. It's not perfect, but there's a reason I start a new playthrough every few months. It's one of the few games that really resonates with me emotionally to this level. I could write paragraphs upon paragraphs about why, but I won't. Not here, anyway. You can just know it's a very good game, and a good farewell from Bungie to the Halo series. Sometimes I wish it was the last Halo game that was made.

Spartans never die. They're just missing in action.
