UPDATED REVIEW: Ever since Epic Games has bought this game, it has lost any and all fun it once had. All the new items they have introduced, whether they are Black Market decals, Goal Explosions, Battle Pass rewards, etc. are all extremely unoriginal now. A lot of them are just copy and paste with minor changes.

What used to be fun playlists and events giving you points you could spend for playing, has become a grind of challenges meant to time-gate you, to keep you to play for as long as possible (referring to the Golden crates requiring you to play 20 matches for one).

The new cars are all 10-20€ DLC now, for a single car. It is ABSURD.
The LTM gamemodes are either the same exact ones we've had before, or extremely uninspired (for example, the new Spooky Cube event.It's literally just a skin for the cube mutator, and the old Stranger Things map with darker lighting and without the filters and monster.

The season rewards are incredibly uninspired too. Before Epic Games stepped in (so before the Free To Play update), we had creative and original rewards each season. Yeah, not everyone was happy with them, but they were at least creative and original. Ever since Epic/FTP, they have been the EXACT SAME DESIGN PROFILE, just with minor changes: that is, focusing on having the main rank icon repeated everywhere and be the focus of the reward.

I LOVE the pre-FTP/Epic season rewards. The boosts, the wheels, the banners, the trails (that we only ever got once in OG S4 by the way), etc... they were all original and creative, instead of being the same thing again and again with minor tweaks.

As the final nail in the coffin, the GC titles are now Red, which makes them quite literally almost unreadable on the scoreboard. They also don't say "Season X Grand Champion", but "SX Grand Champion". The old yellow titles were much more impressive and appealing.\

So there you have it. I have 2000+ hours on PS4 + PC combined, been GC1 since Season 14, been playing since Season 3, and I no longer have any reason to play sjnce the FTP update.
The events are garbage and meant to keep you playing for as long as possible rather than being fun.
There is only like one new gamemodes a year.
The "new" maps have all been extremely boring visually and look the same.
The only two reasons to grind have become boring: the season rewards are ALL the same and the battle passes are all boring and uninspired.

ALL of that criticism only relates to post-Epic Games/Free-To-Play period.
Epic Games have ruined both Rocket League as a game, and Psyonix's creative people and designers.

ORIGINAL POSITIVE REVIEW: I've been playing Rocket League since March 2017, on PS4. Got the game on PC November 15th of this year, and the grind to Champion Rewards is still fun everytime. It's obviously better to play with friends, but just like most players above Platinum, I play this game solo most of the time. It can be frustrating if you have bad teammates in a ranked game, and the community is toxic in-game for no reason sometimes, but that's only one part of it. The game itself is very fun and has a steep learning curve that makes it rewarding to progress. The only downside and feature I would like to see implemented would be a way to transfer items from PS4 to PC.
