So very well designed.

Perfect balance of action and puzzles. Puzzles are challenging enough to be interesting but not so difficult as to stop progression and frustrate the player.

Story is delivered with in world scripted events which aren't too elaborate and don't demand the player's attention or get in the way of the gameplay.

The result is smooth continuous and satisfying gameplay. No downtime, never get lost or feel unsure of your objective.

The variety of gameplay is just great. Every stage feels distinct and fresh but also within stages the game is always switching things up. Scenery and gameplay are constantly changing but in a way that always feels smooth, not jarring.

Went in with no experience of the Half Life games other than occasionally playing Garry's Mod, and came away with a newfound appreciation.
