I went in not sure exactly what to expect from this game. I started and put in about 13 hours and decided it wasn't for me. The game felt very slow even though the story was interesting. I decided this game wasn't worth more of my time.

Fast forward to my second shot at PoE (about a year later) and I discovered that this game is SO MUCH MORE than a Diablo clone. This ARPG blows Diablo and Diablo clones out of the water. Through the combination of skill gems, extensive passive tree, and ascendency classes you aren't limited to "a warrior, spell caster, ranger, cleric, etc". You can seriously make your character your own by doing some research and theory crafting. Trust me, before you spend your first few points, you'll want to read about each node.

This game is amazing for being F2P. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone that enjoys ARPG's. At minimum, invest 20 hours in-game and 5 hours doing build/passive tree/skill gem research. This game will break you free from the typecasts of characters from other ARPGS. Be prepared to change your life.
