First off, we have to be real here: Back to the Future is a beloved franchise in large part because the two writers stopped writing movies so they could make a full time job out of curating and stewarding BttF as a media entity. If you have a few dozen grand in liquid cash and a phone to call one of the Bobs, you can have BttF content in your game. It's more of a village bicycle than Ghostbusters as an IP, at this point.

I am thoroughly unimpressed with the criticism "This DLC doesn't have much content."

It's Powerwash DLC. The heck did you expect? You get two locations and three vehicles, along with a cute little plot about helping Universal shoot the movies. The DLC explicitly lists all the locations and what you'll clean in the store description. The only person to blame for not knowing there/s about two hours of content if you grind it all out is you, the purchaser who has already played the main game and knows how fast vehicle cleaning jobs tend to go.

The plot is a little hinky but far less twee than the Spongebob DLC. It's the 80s, you've been hired by an intern on the filming sets of BttF to clean props. Three of the settings have special triggers that cause the "special effects" to go off and actual moments from the movie happen. Never mind the fact it's clearly actually time travel or holographic sharks, reality is liquid in the Powerwash world.

If you enjoy the movies and still get a little thrill out of watching them, you'll have fun playing this. There's tons of little touches, like the Delorean leaving Twin Pines mall and it taking as much real world time to re-appear as it does in the movie. Just know the DLC did not license Silvestri's score, sound effects from the movie, or any copyrighted materials affiliated with the props. The Delorean does not have the DMC logo on the grille. Doc Brown's time train doesn't make the right whistle when it takes off. They're little details but they're details a BttF nerd who spent $8 on Powerwash Sim might notice.

It's worth the price of admission for a BttF fan. I think the main problem with all the negative reviews is we've got a ton of Powerwash fans desperate for content and are now buying DLC with very specific niche appeal that they are not a part of. So many negative reviews are starting with phrases like "I don't like BttF" or "I haven't seen the movies" and then they complain that there's not enough here to make it worth $8.

Folks. The point of the DLC is that you're having fun power-washing a garbage sports car from the 80s with a bunch of junk glued onto it to look like a time machine. Let's get a little perspective here. It's like loading up the Steam Engine bonus job in the main game and complaining there's not enough of the main game's plot. You're asking the wrong thing of the wrong content.

Being able to stand in the same spot Doc and Marty stand in and stare down the Delorean so it disappears a few feet in front of you? That's a fun little thrill. Getting to see the time train take off and travel? Also a thrill.

Overall: A fun little time. Worth the money. I'd gladly pay $8 for an indie game that lasts an hour and is consistently fun the entire time. I pay more to watch a bad 2 hour movie in theaters with friends. Let's have some perspective before we start parroting the idea "this isn't worth $8."

Gale and Zemeckis did Interstate 60 post BttF. It is a *fantastic* movie that has a cameo by Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd plays a supporting character in the film (it was the first time the two actors had been in the same movie since BttF). There are also several "nods" to the BttF franchise based on clocks and even some of the musical score. If you haven't seen it, I must *highly* recommend the film. It's only a few dollars if you buy it on YouTube. Not sure what Amazon is charging for it. I also have a physical copy that I might be willing to let someone borrow within question.

As for the review?? This was awesome. Spot on. I gave you the highest point award for the content. I can't believe the number of people leaving harsh reviews despite having never seen the film / never liked the film. It's kinda absurd.

I will cop to mis-phrasing it as "the writing partners" when I meant "the Bobs" wrote the movies but Bob Gale the individual is the caretaker of the franchise. Gale absolutely stopped existing in Hollywood to become the custodian of BttF. The two things you listed as things Gale did post-BttF are both for-funsies scripts for anthology TV. He writes some things, including comics, but Gale's full time job ever since BttF part 3 as been to be the guy who oversees what things can have the BttF logo stamped on them. Dude wrong Back to the Future: The Ride for pete's sake.

Zemeckis has been done with BttF since shooting wrapped on 3. He's immaterial to the legacy of BttF from that point forward.

Just a small side note: BttF was written by Robert Zemeckis, and Bob Gale, who both had careers in Hollywood after BttF, and didn’t retire. Bob Gale wrote for Tales From the Crypt, and their movie Bordello of Blood, and Zemeckis did a lot, Forrest Gump, Beowulf, Trespass, to name a few.

How is it absurd? Do you buy a new flavor of mayonnaise because you're a fan of mustard and they're both things that go on sandwiches? It's preposterous to suggest a licensed DLC for a movie franchise that hasn't had a new movie in 30 years clearly isn't SPECIFICALLY targeting fans of that thing.

The DLC is not marketed as "buy only if you like BttF". The idea that you should have to like BttF to criticize it is absurd.

This is a great retort and I hope a lot of perspective DLC buyers read it. That said, I also think it's fair for others to express their disappointment. If a ton of players share this opinion in the reviews, it highlights the issue and future players should purchase the DLC with full knowledge of the length and value of the content they're buying.

Small addendum: unlike the Spongebob DLC, you can actually use all of your unlocks in this, which includes the trident nozzle you get at the end of the main PWS campaign.

Which is to say: I think a lot of people who are saying the Spongebob DLC has "more content" are forgetting the Spongebob content doesn't let you use the most powerful nozzle in the game, inherently handicapping you.

My gut feeling is a lot of negative reviews are from players who used the trident nozzle in BttF and didn't stop to think "maybe I'm beating this super quickly because I'm using the comically overpowered tool on the best gun in the game."
