I waited until the first update before I gave a negative review but it doesn't have seem to have done anything but paper over the cracks. I'm a huge fan of the Total War franchise and of Three Kingdoms history but this game just fails to deliver and is a massive step backwards for the franchise.

It has a lot of potential and could end up being a decent game when it is finished but this feels more like a beta test now, it has so many bugs and problems it just isn't worth playing; the AI in campaign, diplomacy and battles is just completely broken. If anyone reads this please wait before buying, you'll get the game cheaper and you won't need to wait for it to be finished.

If you liked Shadow of Mordor you'll like this, it is similar but more polished. The story is original and interesting though does take artistic license with the Tolkienverse, die hard Tolkien fans might be annoyed. The Captains feature is improved from the SoM, different abilities, immunities and weaknesses make captains feel different (though repetitive dialogue doesn't help) and prevents the player from using a single stragegy.

All and all a good game.

This could be a really good game down the line but at the moment it feels unfinished. It has far too many bugs to be enjoyed properly, wait until it has been patched a few times before buying.
