As a massive Fan of Dying Light 1, I cannot and will not In good conscience recommend Dying Light 2.

Stay away from this Game. The crushing disappointment and frustration You will feel will be hard.

You have been warned.

A splendid Update to Super Lucky's Tale [SLT]; New Super Lucky's Tale [NSLT] adds a Ton of Improvement and Fixes to the Original 2017 Release.

I was able to 100% Everything Including All Achievements. Thankfully, the grinding Achievements from Super Lucky's Tale did not return.

Visuals - 4/5
----------

While largely Unchanged from SLT, NSLT adds far more Cutscenes with each Including far more Expression and Liveliness to the Game. These really Help bring more Flavour to the Characters, Story and Presentation.
Lucky now Runs on Two Legs compared to All Fours In SLT. This really Helps Fit Him Into the Worlds around Him. His Attacks are Swift and much more Responsive. Several Levels have been adjusted to Include more Colourful Lighting and Warmer/Cooler Tones depending on the Setting. Almost All Cutscenes are done In-Engine but the Prologue and Epilogue change the Painted Style from SLT to a far more Expressive yet less Detailed Cartoon/Comic Style.

Controls - 5/5
-----------

A Massive Improvement from SLT, Lucky Is more Responsive than ever. His Attacks are Swift and have far better Hit Detection, Making Combat much more Enjoyable and less Chance of Lucky being Suckerpunched from a Random Projectile or Enemy. His Movement Is far less Floaty than In SLT too; Giving the Player much more Control.

Camera Controls are another much needed Improvement with a Full 3D Camera compared to SLT's 45 Degree Tilting Camera. This can really Help give Broader Perspective on each World that Lucky can Travel to.

Again, Lucky's Double Jump doesn't gain much Height but He Is able to Clamber onto Surfaces far more Easily; Reducing the Number of awkward Jumps and Chances of Falling to Death.

It Is also now Impossible to Die In Hub Worlds; Thereby Inhibiting the Loss of Player Lives while Exploring.

Sound - 5/5
---------

Sound Quality is largely Unchanged; However, The Soggy Boggy Boy's Song has Changed to a far more Lively Track compared to the Slower Song from SLT. Lady's Meowmalade's Boss Track Is still as Pumping as before and the Overall Sound Design and Soundtrack Is the Same as SLT.

Gameplay - 5/5
-------------

Lucky's Tailswipe has Increased to a 3-Hit Combo from the Simple Swipe from SLT. Combat Is far more Responsive and Pleasing to Perform; Especially with the better Hit Detection.

While most Levels are Unchanged, The Spookington Hub has been completely Redesigned to Hauntingham and the Level for the Soggy Boggy Boys In Veggie Village has been Expanded and takes place at Night, Giving It a larger Platforming Aspect.

Enemies Types are the Same; However, Some Bosses have seen Upgrades. Some almost Unnoticeable and Others far more Improved over Their SLT Counterparts.

The New 3D Camera also Helps the Player In Navigating the Large Levels and prevent any Accidental Deaths from Falling.

The DLC from SLT has been Flawlessly Implemented Into NSLT; Fitting the Narrative much more Smoothly.

Overall - 19/20
----------

As a Fan of the Original SLT, I was Quick to Grab NSLT at Its Initial Sale Price and was rather Impressed with the Amount of Tuning that Plaful Corp. had made to the Game. 3D Platforming Fans that are New to Lucky's Adventure will be sure to Enjoy the Colourful and Free-Spirited Journey that Lucky takes on His Quest to Recover the Pages for the Book of Ages. Fans Familiar with the Series may want to Consider Waiting for a Sale but will be Pleasantly Surprised with what Is In Store. The Ending will also be a Fun Surprise!

Hope We will get to Continue Our Adventures with Lucky In a Sequel!

I originally completed this Game to 100% on the Windows Store/Xbox One Release back In 2017 [Including All Achievements]. I can easily say, Without a doubt, Super Lucky's Tale Is One of My Favourite 3D Platformers and One of My Favourite Games of All Time.

Edit - As of 20th July 2019, I have achieved 100% of the Super Lucky's Tale Achievements on Steam. I highly Recommend This Game.

Visuals - 4/5
----------

Other than a limited Selection of Character Models, The Visuals are full of charm and bright colours. This Cartoon Style worked for 3D Platformers Decades ago and It still works well to This Day, Ensuring the Game will most likely never look as Outdated compared to Games which go for a more Realistic Aesthetic. The way Lucky smiles at You as You pan the Camera around Is absolutely adorable! Each Hub World Is distinct and full of Coins and Diamonds, With many of Them well hidden.

The Animations are fluid and, Other than a few Jerky Moments, Flow really well. There are a few odd Moments [Design Choice?] such as Dying In the air will make Lucky stay floating In the Spot He died.

Controls - 4/5
-----------

The most Important Part of any 3D Platformer are the Controls. If Your Character doesn't control well, The Platforming will suffer and Everything comes crashing down. Thankfully, Lucky controls very tightly and reacts swiftly to User Input. The Controls are responsive and easy to master.

Camera Controls are limited, However. There Is no true 3D Camera and You can only tilt the Camera at certain Angles. Be wary when making dangerous Jumps as the Camera can become Your Main Enemy. Always check to make sure Lucky's Shadow Is on the Surface You are trying to reach or You will end up falling to Your Death.

Combat works well but There Is the occasional odd Hitbox Detection such as coming Into Contact with an Enemy mid-jump or trying to pounce on Them. This can be a Problem If You're trying to get the Achievements which require You to complete a Level without taking Damage.

My only Main Gripe Is Lucky's Double Jump doesn't gain enough Height.

Sound - 5/5
---------

The Music Is bright and cheerful, Mainly Orchestral In Nature but There are the occasional Electronic Tracks which sound awesome. Lucky's Theme really gives off the Feeling of Adventure and Is very expressive of Lucky's carefree Nature. The Boss Music Tracks fit the Tension but also tend to feel a bit disconnected depending on Who You're fighting such as having a Sound similar to a 50's UFO Sci-Fi Film while fighting a Pirate.

Each Hub World has It's Own Theme which fits the Aesthetic of the Area such as Spookington having a very Ghostly and Halloween Feel to It whereas Holiday Canyon has several more Exotic Instruments fitting the Hot and Arid Climate.

One of the stand out Tracks Is definitely Lady Meowmalade's Boss Music In the Gilly Island DLC. It's extremely catchy despite the Vocals mostly just saying "Meow". Great Job on This! It suits Meowmalade's extravagant Lifestyle and Her Diva Personality. I also like the Soggy Boggy Boys' small Song In One of the Veggie Village Levels, Even though It Is so Short. :P

Gameplay - 4/5
-------------

Lucky has a Number of Ways to combat Enemies such as Pouncing, Tail Whipping and Launching from the Ground while Digging. There will be Moments Where You have to chain Lucky's Moves such as alternating between Jumps and Digging. This Is very true during the Boss Battles where You need to keep on Your Toes and learn the Patterns the Bosses perform.

There are a Variety of Levels from the standard Platforming Levels, 2D Platforming Segments, Burrowing Levels where Lucky Is on Auto-Pilot and You need to perform Various Moves to get past Obstacles and, Of course, Puzzles. Sliding Puzzles which can provide a good Brainteaser for Those Who like Them. Other than These, Levels usually have a set Goal Which You need to achieve such as flipping Switches littered throughout a Level.

Enemies come In different Forms such as Giant Caterpillars, Which don't do much other than crawl towards You, Bees which can fire a Stinger at You as well as a Red Variant which can fire Three Stingers rapidly, Flowers that try to headbutt You and More. Learning how to defeat Them will prove essential If You're trying to go for All the Achievements.

Again, Learning how to use the Camera efficiently will benefit You. I would say My least Favourite Levels are the Levels In which Lucky Is In a Ball and You need to angle the Level to move Him around. Due to the awkward Camera Angle, It does become tough trying to move Lucky around the Stages.

The DLC adds a Ton of new Content such as new Costumes and more Levels. Both of Them are equally good as Guardian Trials adds a Ton of new Levels but Gilly Island has far more Variety and a better Narrative Plot. As well as That great Music Track I mentioned earlier.

Overall - 17/20
----------

As a HUGE Fan of 3D Platformers, I've played Them All. Crash Bandicoot, Sonic the Hedgehog, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, Kao the Kangaroo... I love Them All and I can happily say Super Lucky's Tale Is another Game I will always cherish. A 3D Platformer? Yes. With a Fox? Heck, Yes!

If You love Platformers, I highly recommend Super Lucky's Tale. It Is a pleasure to play through and, Even though the Camera takes a few Points away, It's a solid Game. Tight Controls, Bright Visuals, Pleasant Music.. All Things a Game centred around a Platforming Mascot should be!

I hope We see a Super Lucky's Tale 2 someday! Heck, Maybe even a Non-VR Version of Lucky's Tale [Super Lucky's Tale Is a "Sequel"]. Still hoping to end up with a Lucky Pop Vinyl on My Shelf In the Future too!

EDIT -

After much thought, I have decided to return My Review to a Positive Review. I apologise to the Developer as I do realise He Is a Solo Developer and making a Game Is hard.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A solid attempt at recreating the style of the 3D Platformers from the 90s to very early 2000s. Nearly at 100% of the Achievements.

Edit - As of 1st of October 2019, I have 100% of the Achievements.

Visuals - 4/5
----------
A very colourful Game with vibrance and an Interesting art direction. Some levels look great such as the Hub and Island level but some can be a bit too dreary such as the Snowy level. Overall, I am looking forward to seeing how the other levels will look.

Some Objects such as switches don't really stand out that much and could leave Someone a bit confused on What to do next.

I also hope the Enemies will get more variaty too as, So far, There are only 2 Models for Them.

Controls - 3/5
-----------

The Character, Bluu, controls decently. Jumping can feel a bit stiff and moving while In the air Is a bit floaty. I hope this gets fine tuned as movement and control Is VERY Important In a 3D Platformer, Requiring precision and accuracy when making leaps. There have been a few Instances where I attempted to jump over a gap, Only to fall down to a lower level or even My death. I have had a few moments Where Bluu refuses to jump while I am running too.

Combat Is a bit clunky too. Tailswiping can be a big hit or miss and all the Player really has to do Is employ a hit and run technique to defeat Enemies. Looking forward to seeing a more varied Movement Set In the future.

Glider controls are slightly stiff but passable. It only occurs In a Mini-Game, So far, so It might be a bit too early to judge.

I also hope Swimming gets tuned up a bit too as It Is rather drastically slow compared to the rest of the Game, To the point Where It becomes a chore. If the Game ends up having a Water level later on where Swimming Is a must then This could really use a bit of speeding up.

Co-Op controls don't see to work? I've tried all buttons but nothing seems to move the Second Character.

Sound - 4/5
---------

Enemies do tend to make the same sound a lot and the death sound does kind of remind Me of the Elites from Halo, Ha ha.

The Soundtrack Is easy going. I really enjoyed the Hub World and Desert Island Tracks. Very laid back! The Desert Island Track gives Me a very big "Halo" vibe once the Drums kick In and I am loving It! Really suits the exotic nature of the Island. The very adventurous Battle Music can be a bit jarring after Instantly playing after the more laid back Ambient Music. They are good Musical pieces, Though. They do capture the mood and setting, I just think they could use a bit more blending In... But that could just be Me nitpicking. Overall, A fantastic job with This. I am looking forward to hearing more Music In This Game.

Gameplay - 4/5
-------------

So far, There Is only one way to combat Enemies and the Level selection Is small. Of course, This will be expanded upon as the Game progresses In development. Collecting the Orbs Is easy enough and There are a few well hidden Secret Areas. There Isn't much Platforming In some of the Levels other than getting over some pits or going up a level and even when There are, The only danger Is missing a Platform due to the Issue with the Controls as I stated above.

Co-Op - 3/5
---------

So far, I couldn't find a way to move the Second Character. Perhaps adding the Controls to the Control Screen would help.

I do appreciate There being Co-Op In the first place... I just wish I knew how to actually get It working.

Edit - After I was able to Play through Co-Op with a Second Controller, The overall System did Work really well. However, Being Limited to a Single Map and not being able to Do much with It does leave much to be Desired. Perhaps Adding Challenge Maps or far more Complex Puzzles? That could go a really long Way!

Overall - 18/25
----------

This Is a very fine attempt at making a 3D Platformer. It has artistic charm and definitely has potential to be Something good. Especially, As far as I am aware, It Is being developed by One Person. That Is an achievement In Itself.

I would definitely recommend This Game to 3D Platforming Fans, Such as Myself, But for the more Hardcore or Relaxed Gamers, They may want to wait until more Content Is added.

It IS worth the current Price, Though. Whether This Price will rise or not remains to be seen. While I do question Why the Game wasn't put Into Early Access due to low amount of Content and as It Is still being developed, I can understand the Developer's Intentions. Whether Anyone else will, However, Is another question.

And I really hope There will be a way to know the Controls for the Second Character In Co-Op.

Overall, I have been enjoying This Game and I really do wish the Developer the best of luck with This. Seeing more 3D Platformers appear Is a great Thing for a Gamer like Me. :)

I do hope to Include Bluu In a Picture I am planning on drawing featuring All 3D Platforming Mascots from Crash to Lucky to Sonic etc.

I've tried many Early Access Games and I have to say that the developers of this have done a phenomenal job. Being a fan of games like Dying Light and BioShock, This game has several features I love such as the Parkour and abilities to aid the player in getting around and using the environment to progress.

The visuals are simply breathtaking. I adore the bright sunlight against the panoramic landscape, Though It can get a bit hard to see here and there. Thankfully, The developers don't overdepend on effects such as Bloom to hide visual artifacts and everything is extremely detailed. There is the occasional pop-in but overall, I think this is a beautifully crafted world.

In terms of enemies, The Golems are really well animated and initially could prove to be a slight challenge to newcomers.
However, Once you learn their attack moves then they do become rather predictable. It then simply becomes a dodge game where you just wait for the Golems to reveal their vunerable cores. I would love to see more tactics added. Perhaps using the environment to stun Golems while trying to avoid getting hurt yourself? Maybe knocking down crumbling pillars to make several heavy rocks rain down on the area. The turrets and drones are neat too and I like the very basic Stealth system to avoid being spotted by them as you try to deactivate them. I adore Stealth and I hope this gets expanded on, If possible.

The voice acting is pretty decent. Nothing spectacular but not too grating. So props to the developers for creating a protagonist not too serious and not too annoying. It's rather balanced. I also do hope that the Old Man gets more than one laugh.. :P.

Sound work is nice though I have noticed times where the music or sound effects, Such as the Artifacts, Will cut out occasionally. I hope that some sounds will gradually fade out as you move further away as It would help In trying to locate them slightly easier. I have also noticed that when I am looking at an Artifact, The whispering sounds can be heard through either my left or right speakers through my headphones which can feel a bit weird. But It isn't that much of a problem.

Gameplay is great. I really do love the Parkour in this but It can end up feeling a bit " floaty " here and there, Especially when falling. As for the Magic [ Or Energy? ] skills such as being able to Slingshot around or leave behind Marks that you can quickly teleport to, They are very fun to use but at times, I haven't been able to leave Marks as pressing the button often does nothing. Hopefully, This will get fixed in later patches.

I am very interested to see how the story progresses. The mix of Fantasy / Sci-Fi really gives me a somewhat " Assassin's Creed " mixed with " Halo " feeling. It does leave you wondering what is yet to come.

Overall, A brilliant job by the developers. I highly recommend this, Especially at such a great price. You are sure to get your money's worth. I wish the developers of Downward all the best with this project and any future ones that they may start. The amount of potential here is extremely high.

A huge thumbs up. Buy It now.
