Pros:
- Lengthy campaign
- Well designed and flexible turn-based combat system
- Random event/world generation
- Overflowing with elements from other genres to add depth
- Multiple playstyles can be effective
- Well implemented auto-save system

Cons:
- Campaign is a bit too lengthy due to repetition
- Still riddled with bugs that can be game breakers
- No voice audio, entirely text-driven plot
- Erratic AI behaviour and levelling

Ultimately if you are a fan of the turn-based strategy genre then you probably won’t want to miss out. But until Snowbird either adds in a whole new raft of features (multiplayer options, alternate ways to conquer shards) then for the sake of pretty graphics it’s hard to imagine why you would pay upwards of £20 for an identical remake of a game that is still available for £2 - especially in a genre where graphics are less than a secondary concern. The amount of bugs and crashes I experienced as well as the constant repetitiveness makes this a hard game to recommend but at the same time I have enjoyed the game and how exceptionally well this game is put together beneath the surface. Juggling multiple management systems and tieing them to karma, story and making the whole experience fluid is not something to dismiss on a whim, however that already appeared to be present in the original game, so the question remains: what value has Snowbird Games really brought to Eador? That is a question I struggle to answer, even after 98 hours.

A (now) solid turn based strategy game that stands shoulder to shoulder with many others but perhaps not quite matching the immersion that the Heroes of Might and Magic series provided. What it lacks in story and frills it more than makes up for with in depth mechanics and gameplay however it is difficult to see anyone who is pressed for time or ambivalent about this genre sticking with Eador beyond the first few hours - especially when the tutorial alone took me 6 hours because I hadn’t realised there was no need to explore everywhere to 100%! It’s a shame as the game really comes alive after the first few hours of invading a shard when you get the tier 3 and 4 creatures involved to take on the larger encounters in the game.
