If you played any Paradox game, you know how this is going to turn out. In its core, HOI4 is a resource management game that focuses on the WW2 era, starting from 1936. You also have the option to start from 1939, but I don't think it's fun. The game has a very interesting fun curve. Starting out, in your first 2-3 runs, you will not get anything that is happening on screen. It is practically learning every feature by testing things out and seeing how stuff works. Then, you'll learn the base mechanics of your game and finally start actually improving. The fun basically rises and rises until the end of this stage and that will usually take you around 70-90 hours. After that, the fun curve drops to 0 and the base game becomes a monotonous, repetitive mess. The only thing keeping your interest will be dumb challanges. At this point, I advise you to full on commit to mods. This game has an incredibly fun modding scene and you can customize your game to look and play however you want it to. It honestly is the sole reason why the game is alive. The game isn't that pricey and if you get into it it will be well worth the money, and with the added bonus of the multiplayer being pretty fun, I'd say buy this game.
