may 2023 edit: random puzzle generator (up to 30x30) and even more quality of life added, only weeks after the 100 new levels in march.

nonozle is a great nonogram collection. not that it had any competition in 2022, or much in general. most devs are clueless and lazy, can't even be bothered to add basic functionality once their absence is pointed out, making said devs even less worthy of support. not this one though. even the store page and trailer are really informative, rarely the case with any game.

300 levels from 5x5 to 25x25, 100 of which were added after release and some are much harder than the original ones. they're all unlocked from the start. there are some great tutorials and handy solving techniques if you're new to the wonderful world of nonograms, mid-level saving and undo/redo, of course, and mouse, keyboard and controller all work. controls are completely rebindable.

hints fade out one by one if there's an x after the section, there's no mandatory warning on mistakes or any sort of mistake counter or death penalty, the timer is optional. hint display and the mistake warning can also be customized, along with pretty much everything else.

default mouse behavior is questionable, make sure to check the overwrite settings in the options. left-clicking an 'x' or right-clicking a filled square shouldn't remove the cell's contents, which happens unless it's changed to 'never overwrite'.

the presentation is a bit spartan, even though you only need a grid and some numbers, as long as everything works as it should, and since it does here, no complaints from me, substance over style. still, the music is pretty good and there's a theme editor to customize the looks if you're not a fan of white, black or gray dominating the screen.

on top of the stuff already mentioned, there are a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of settings, also available while playing a level. many players will just ignore most I'm sure, but it's a huge plus for me. providing options is the best thing a developer can do for maximum accessibility. besides the should-be-usual separate volumes, resolutions and windowed mode, there's playlist customization, v-sync, frame rate limit, toggles for less busywork by filling trivial rows/columns and a bunch of others, I'll refrain from listing everything.

a level editor got added after a while, goes up to 30x30. it doesn't use the steam workshop, as the game is available on other platforms as well, so gotta copy-paste stuff to access user-made levels.

not long after the 100 new levels, another major update happened in may 2023, with the option to highlight rows and columns where cells can be marked. no more tedious counting of 1s and 2s on bigger grids. well, there still is, but only where it matters.

a random but solvable puzzle generator was also added at the same time. set size (up to 30x30) and complexity, can even save the final product to replay later or share it with others. it can take a while to get started on a bigger level, might be better if you're not playing on a toaster like me.

not much else to say, even with less inventive images sometimes heavy on symmetry (less so in the much more challenging abstract packs), it's a great and big collection and functionality-wise the absolute best. though again, there's very little competition. works on win7 as well and barely costs anything even after all the improvements and additions.
