For me, there are two possible interpretations to the ending after Alex woke up: either they are still living in a fantasy created by the ghosts or they actually escaped the island and the glitches at the end just indicate remnants of the ghosts in Alex's psyche.
For the ending where Michael was brought back, I don't like the interpretation that this really happened. I feel the story is much more compelling if you couldn't bring Michael back to life, teaching us we cannot change the past and the dream of the final conversation with Michael in their old house would be a poetic last note.
This alternate ending also erased some events that occured on the island, which detracted from the shared emotional bond between Alex and Jonas. Now this is all assuming that what happened is real. My interpretation of the ending is that they are still on the island, but knowledge of Oxenfree II and its description makes me think that this is unlikely? would be cool to find out more in the sequel!
