Hey Digital Luvin,

I’m one of the developers of Medieval Kingdom Wars. You might not remember the game-- it’s been a REALLY long time since you played it.

I know you had a bad experience with MKW the first time you played it, and honestly I agree-- your review was completely justified.The game definitely had some issues last year. But I’m happy to let you know that our team has been working really hard to update it and it’s honestly like a different game now. I really think you’ll notice the difference!

We’ve improved combat performance, optimisation, user interface, unit control, and more. Many of the glitches that users used to experience have also been fixed!

We’re a really small team of only 3 developers so it takes us a while to complete updates compared to bigger studios. But I promise you we’re working hard to improve the player experience. For example, we’re planning a huge map expansion for later this Fall that will add many, many playable countries to MKW! We also plan on developing the political and economic systems more, as you mentioned in your review, however this takes time.

Whenever you get the chance, I’d really appreciate it if you gave us another chance. I’d hate to think that I left a player disappointed.

Thanks for your consideration & all the best. Shoot me a message if you have questions.

Thanks,

I did play a bit over the holidays, but unfortuantely - I just haven't had enough real life time to sit down and get into it.

I'm a developer as well, so I give you guys the upmost respect as a two man team - the game is quite good for the resources you listed. Being able to split the art / rigging / modeling / scripting / db work, etc.. amongst two guys is an awesome feat of skill.

At some point in the near future when my release schedule slows down a bit, I'll get some time to revisit this one (It's on my list.. I promise)

One thing that really stands out in the game in terms of UX are the menu's ingame.

The research tree is a good example, where the icons are disabled and darker, so it makes it harder to see. The reason it contrasts like that is due to the transperency through to the main game world.

If you placed a contrasting background, it would improve readability quite a bit.

I see transparent menu's used quite a bit in the game and that hurts the polish a bit and its a really simple fix to improve the UX.

Loka,

Thanks again for more great feedback. With fire arrows we did account for less than 1% starting the fire (well we kept at around 7% atm, but still balancing).

Aut as far as limiting them to firing only against buildings, while it would be accurate - we would see too many player complaints. Keep in mind - in recent popular culture, even from bestselling novels, and not to mention movies and other games (everyone is doing it from Total War to MnB) - Fire arrows vs infantry is a thing. I know it`s not historically accurate but this is what vast majority of players is expecting fire arrows to be.

And yeah I think you`ll like the political system, we are going far beyond what games like Total War offer, and instead taking it much closer to CK2.

@Dev Konstantin

Thank you for the follow up on the features. I'll have some time to pickup and play more during the Xmas vacation period, so I'll give it another go that time and update the review based on the features listed.

I'll be interested to check out the political system as CK2 is one of my all time favorites due the depth of the fuedal system. I think that was more of what I was expecting with this game.. a hybrid between Total War and CK2.

@Dev Konstantin

The only thing bugging me regarding historic accuracy is fire arrows. You might want to do research of your own but I can tell you that they were rare and not used against soldiers. Fire arrows are hard to keep burning and requires the arrow to be larger wich reduces range and penetration. And if it his someone they wont spontaniously combust. The fire/ember will steralize the wound so it is a rather nice thin your doing to the enemy.

The rare occasions they were used they were fired on mass into a settlement before a assault hoping to start fires and distract the defenders from manning the walls alltough less than 1% of fire arrows that hit actually started a fire According to modern tests.

Hey Budeholly, Thank you for your review. I wish you could have spend a bit more time with the game though, as I know the first impression is usually so-so with MKW, as it`s still very early in production, and it takes a bit of time to get to the enjoying parts.

Thanks for the kind words with regard to the world map, tutorial and historical research going into the game.

And to address the problematic areas that you point out:

Mediocre Graphics - can`t really contradict you there. We are a very small indie company with just two developers working on the game. So our plan is to do what we can to give it a good visual style, but of-course we can`t compete with high budget Strategy games that have dozens of developers and artists. But we try to make up for this with scale and gameplay value.

Limited Troop Selection - actually we have bigger troop selection than any competitive title like Total War, or Stronghold or Age of Empires X e.t.c. Allready featuring over 30 troops, and we will be expanding this further. However - I think you only experienced the very start of the campaign. Majority of the troops need to be research in the Steward tech tree, and your town needs to have appropriate buildings.

Boring Combat - Very Repetitive - this is indeed a thing, BUT only in the very early campaign - when you have very limited troop selection. Within a couple of hours of gameplay you should be able to construct some of the key building and unlock couple of tech to bring the troop count towards 15 or so, and then the strategies and tactical options really pick up.

No Politics - we`ll be adding this with-in two weeks. We have plans for a very complex and comprehensive political system, including Feudal Hierarchy, relations with all the lords as well as factions. System will be closed to CK2 in complexity.

No Economy - actually majority of economic features are in, it`s just that we need to update the intro dialogue that tells you that economy is not in yet.:) Of-course we are adding more and more to this every week, as economic system is again quite complex, far beyond what competitive titles offer.

In conclusion, I really hope you`ll give the game another chance. If you are to spend couple more hours with the campaign, I really think you`ll get into it. Again thanks for your feedback, and if you have any questions just reply here or on the forums, I`ll be glad to help.
