surprisingly a very fun and engaging game considering its basically medieval qwop

its brutal and hard but kinda awesome at the same time. i really do like this game. the thing is it also has a bunch of annoying things about it that bring down the experience substantially:

-the ai is totally broken. your enemies are almost always fighting at a higher level than you. they swing faster, know how to hit you to weaken you quickly, and get up faster when knocked down than you ever could. meanwhile, when you get knocked down the game basically ends because it takes forever for your guy to get up and the ai will continue wailing on you until you either die or get lucky enough to crawl away and get up.

-late game is torture. the ai will kick your ass constantly if you aren't extremely careful/dont have a good loadout. meanwhile, you try to hit them and they just dont go down or take damage at all. even if you have a full set of upgraded armor and the best weapon money can buy, the ai will magically hit you through armor or just bum rush you faster than you can react and chase you like crazy. its totally unfair and not fun at all. at least earlier in the game you can more consistently land hits and down opponents and it doesnt feel totally unfair.

-the abyss is not great, mostly on account of the zombies. you thought beating a guy in full armor was hard? try a zombie with full armor. its a nightmare. they are constantly running at you and swinging wildly and unpredictably, and they tank more damage than human opponents. the only way to prevent a swarm of zombies is to pay a lot of money to lay their souls to rest, which i didnt know about until after my character died and awoke in the abyss to 150 souls seeking revenge.

-bugs have ruined fights for me many times. im talking randomly injured limbs, my character struggling to hold a weapon properly or randomly dropping it, etc

-there are really only a few weapons that are consistently reliable in this game, and the only way to progress without struggling like hell is to get the meta weapon for each rank, which is often the longest and heaviest thing. i like that theres a good variety of weapons in this game, but i cant say many of them are useful. its mostly regular maces, swords and the best long weapon per rank that carry you. everything else is either weak or very situational, even later rank additions like casted maces.

even despite all of this stuff, the game's pretty fun and has loads of potential. i hope the devs can improve the mechanics and make the game more fun and polished overall instead of just adding cuirasses all the time HINT HINT

this is a good collection if you like engrossing story games and if you're a fan of the walking dead. clementine and lee's stories are especially compelling, and these games tell stories a lot like other walking dead media.. by showing us how powerful perseverance, love, and hope can be, even in the bleakest of circumstances.

a simple, fun and all around cool movement shooter. great with friends. evokes the scrappy shooter games of the past that i grew up on; didnt realize how much i missed those. also, its free! what's not to love?

a fun and innovative game that set the stage for future immersive vr adventures. amazing tunes, fun if occasionally wonky gameplay and a world with just enough intrigue to make you want to explore more. not a perfect game by any stretch but it is a very good one and a must play if you own a vr headset.

bonelab has many of the same problems and shortcomings as boneworks with a story that's more of a tech demo/intro to the game's mechanics than it is an actual story. in some ways, it feels like a step down. that said, its a fun game with cool moments and a lot of potential thanks to the revamped engine and modding platform.

blade and sorcery has always been janky and inconsistent, but its core mechanics have always been rock solid. add all the cool mods out there and you have a fun and dynamic game. I have yet to play a vr game that matches it as far as pure fantasy combat goes.

that said, it has always needed work and still does. crystal hunt is a bit too repetitive (albeit quite fun), and in my opinion some of the mechanics have taken a hit in favor of adding features that contribute little to the enjoyment of the combat. for instance, unarmed combat (punching, grabbing and throwing, etc) was tons of fun for a long time but recent updates have weakened it some. focus was also better before, but has since been changed in favor of unnecessary features like hyper focus which is lame as hell in my opinion (although i dont know if all the telekinetic powers in crystal hunt are in sandbox. havent tested yet)

tldr blade and sorcery is fun but still in need of improvements. i hope warpfrog hasnt completely given up on it after 1.0

deltarune is an amazing follow up to undertale. its a very ambitious and bold sequel, yet the core of toby fox's style is still there.. the characters are lovable, the story is written with care and balances its moving parts very gracefully, and the game is very successful at immersing you in the world such that you crave more adventures.

it inspires that rare kind of happiness that i havent felt from playing games in a while.

mostly because of ralsei

toby fox if you do anything to him im coming after you

also HOLY ♥♥♥♥ yall should drop chapters faster. look, i dont mind the devs taking as long as they need to release the best game possible, but at this rate i'll be dead before all the chapters release

Dread X 4 isn't too bad overall, but is noticeably lacking in quality compared to prior releases.

Uktena 64: decent game. It's got some humor and charm and the gameplay was good. 7/10

Axis Mundi: I liked the premise and the gameplay wasn't too bad. It's a cool idea that should be expanded upon. 7/10

Black Relic: a frustratingly slow and boring game. Conceptually, it feels cliche, especially considering torple dook already made a game kinda like this one in dread x 1. 1/10

Rose of Meat: it's bold and different, which I respect. It's also an occasionally frustrating and unpleasant experience. 4/10

Seraphixial: I'm not sure how this even got on to the collection. This is a really bad game, one of the worst to come out of Dread X overall. The idea is unique, I guess. 0/10

The Fruit: This one had potential for sure, but it was tedious to play. 4.5/10

The House of Unrest: it's mechanically solid and doesn't overstay its welcome or waste time. I liked it, but I can't help but think that it could have been better. 7/10
