Tedious, not hard. Concerns of Asset thievery / NFT promotion / 8.0 hours played / 66 minute completion

While this draws comparisons from the renowned "Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy", the only similarity the games share is the goal of the player; going up. Foddy's charismatic narration leads the player through an increasingly difficult-to-traverse world, wherein players IMPROVE as they play more and master the mechanics of the pick-axe. It is consistently clear where the player is supposed to go, there are no shortcuts that DON'T RELY ON MECHANICAL SKILL to perform, and players who complete the game feel PROUD of their accomplishment, and are provided a space to share this pride with other players.

Only Up, by comparison, is worse in almost every other way.

As others have stated, mechanics are clunky (but usable - per the recent update which enables First Person & direct behind camera views.

The platforming itself isn't hard, it's simply long and strenuous. You HAVE to complete the game in a single sitting, as once you exit the game your progress is not retained.

I would have liked to see more variation in the style of obstacles and jumps. With the grab mechanic and slow motion, every jump is relatively easy. What becomes difficult is the repetition paired with the clunky controls and inconsistent clipping that occasionally inexplicably catapult your character.

Learning the skips allows the player to remove some tedium. However it's a BAD sign if skipping the ACTUAL CONTENT of the game is a pro...

Bed Jumps take a bit to learn and can feel random, but once you learn there are directional beds it makes it more understandable and easier to master.

The rainbow cheese fall with the invisible walls forcing a complete fall is a cheap gimmick but elicited the desired social medial posts and content.

The plot is paper thin, obviously not seriously worked on or considered in the making of the game. It feels more like an afterthought than anything else. The robot dialogue is lazy and uninspired. After a few runs I honestly just turned down the volume and played music or a podcast. (a continuing theme - removing aspects of the game make it a MORE enjoyable experience...)

Completing this game made me feel relieved, but not happy. The game's punishments feel unfair (rainbow drop, dragon randomly knocking you off beanstalk, unexplained momentum shooting you off a landing platform after a jump) as the player HAS NO CONTROL or counter to them. This, paired with the fact that the game's mechanics are easy yet boring, culminate into a profoundly unenjoyable experience.

I can't tell you WHY I spent 8 hours to beat this game aside from the desire to get the steam achievement as a badge of honor. Although it might be better described as a badge of masochism.

I would not recommend this game to a friend. It is vacuous, tedious, and unrewarding. In addition, there are several concerns of asset thievery and some underhanded plot to promote NFTS.
